The beast creeps up and you have no idea what to do, well here are 10 tips.

1) The beast approaches and its close, DONT RUN. The beast knows to kill a runner.

2) It stares at you with those big mean eyes, well duck grab a stick throw and dont move, kitty like light. :)

3) I have come to the conclusion the beast might be blind like a T-rex, just stand still and stand up against it. Show him who owns the island >:) (I havnt seen the beast for 3 days with this tip)

4) Against a cliff and the beast walks up, the cliff is your new friend so use him to get away quick.

5) Scared of it? Best you dont travel at night because it will be hard to see and torches make you a marker.

6) When your walking through that swamp and you see those branches you dont think much. But they are really landmines that tell the creature your location.

7) This tip is not recommended but its best to try to keep moving so the beast cant trace you.

8) Medicine can be your friend. One medicine allows a permanent advantage to the beast that allows your character to turn towards the beast and tell you if your hidden when its near.

9) This one should be a basic note, check your surroundings for the beast.

10) This one is also basic, you cant kill the beast so dont try if you like all your limbs on you.

BONUS) Some people say if you dont see any wild life the beast my be near.(proven)

Yeah, I find this too. I remember one time too... I heard the heartbeat and couldn''t see the beast anywhere, but heard and saw a bird fly off from a certain direction. I saw the beast walk in from that area a few seconds later

Most of this is really bad advice. If you stand still and do nothing in plain sight, it will come up and swipe at you. Can't speak for torches, but light seems to have no impact, or your lighter would make hiding at night impossible.

Run for a camp if there's one nearby, or bushes if no camp is an option. Entering a tent or building automatically sends it away. For bushes, more luck and skill are needed. Get whatever lead you can on it, get into cover, crouch and don't move. It seems to have trouble climbing up steep slopes, so you can use those to slow it down, if you're well enough to climb them yourself.

Still accepting any useful tips you guys have and thank you for the feedback! I would really like to get some more tips on how to get away from the beast. ;)

My thoughts from before the update - not sure how update would affect them.

1. When your heart starts beating - turn and run the opposite direction.

2. Better - hide. Crouch in tall grass. Especially with certain drugs and boosters this is very effective. It will not leave you alone later in the game but as long as you move slowly from position to position you're fine.

3. Run - if it has seen you run for a bit then hide, then run. Repeat. All paths lead somewhere. Find one and just run along it.

4. Wave your object (knife, torch, axe) at it while backing away. If you are facing it it swipes slowly and with enough warning to move backwards from it (for some odd reason this is not true while not facing it and running from it).

5. Trees that are close together and cliffs cause it problems.

6. You can throw yourself over a cliff but I really don't recommend it.

7. Swim far distances (obviously this requires either medicine or a booster)

8. Stay on high mountains or the coast line.

9. I shouldn't say this, but I will, don't panic. Seriously, most of the harm happens when you panic and run - tripping falling, running for too long without hiding in grass, etc. - all cause major problems. The creature's logic is easy to confuse. Immediately look for cover. Face it with an axe, knife, or torch, (pots and pans maywork too not sure) and keep swinging if it sees you. Only run from it if you have to. As long as you carry medicine with you, you can survive at least three hits which should be enough to make it to any camp.

Ok so a little late to the party here but I've just started to replay this little game and thought this might help someone new to the game (if there is anyone new to it). This is something I discovered that really saved my life on multiple occasions:

Light some plants (like you do for making a torch at night) and throw it, not AT the creature but PAST it. It is fascinated by the fire, and it will turn it's back on you and chase the lighted torch giving you just enough opportunity to navigate away and behind an obstacle or go crouch in some tall grass without it observing you doing so. It will continue to look for you for awhile, but if unsuccessful, will just give up and move on.

I'm relatively new to the game. I've only been hit once by the beast--the first time I encountered him. I have had the permanent mental clarity shot. I squat often during my walk and usually know its there before I hear the heart beats. I immediately head for bushes, grass or trees, squat and nothing else. If he doesn't go away relatively soon, I stay in my squatting position and slowly back away with my face toward him, backing or sidling left or right to stay in cover. He usually disappears within seconds of doing this. Just today I was right up against some water with trees in front of me. The beast came down to the water and drank RIGHT NEXT TO ME, I thought I was a goner but he turned around and left. He definitely seems to appear in an area where there is an important plant. I keep trying to find the large purple fruit plant and everytime I get in the area, he appears.
