Dear Devs: What are .rs5 files?
I wanted to ask how to open the main.rs5 file in the game direction. I already googled it a few times, but I couldn't find anything helpful.

Try 7zip, DragonUnpack, and similar. It could be a proprietary compression method/container, but more likely it is something fairly standard. I also doubt it is encrypted.

7zip, winrar, Dragonunpack and other programs didn't work. And I don't think that it is something standard, because there wasn't an entry about this on any file-format list. I only found one comment about this format on a SAP site. But I don't have any idea about SAP, so it wasn't helpful.

So, is there a way to open these files? Just because I would love to experiment a little bit with the meshes and textures ;).

Joe said the format for the file is something he came up with. He might be able to create a utility, but that wouldn't be trivial, so we'll have to look into that after we release the update. Sorry, I wish I had a better answer so you could crack into them now.

Looks like it's a zlib-compressed tagged format with central directory.
From what I can gather:
The IMDL (Immobile MoDeL?) models have texture lists, vertex lists (with x, y, z, 3 ARGB colours (diffuse, ambient and specular?), u, v, and another value), triangle lists (vertex index triplets), and some other data.
The AMDL (Animated MoDeL?) models have texture lists, vertex lists (with x, y, z, u, v, and 3 (?) ARGB colours), triangle lists (vertex index triplets), joints, and some other data.
The texures are DDS textures with some metadata.
It shouldn't be too difficult to make something to export COLLADA, OBJ or some other simple mesh format.

Ah, ok. No problem. Thank you very much for your hard work on our problems and our questions. I can only imagine how much work was put into this beautiful game and how long it takes to optimize it. I hope you guys still enjoy working on this game as much as we enjoy playing it^^.

I've created an extractor for the RS5 files in Miasmata, converting the models to Collada models, and the textures to PNG textures.

The extractor program doesn't work for me, assumedly because of the new patch or something.

I have updated it to handle a new type that was introduced in the environment object in Update #1.

Hey klightspeed. I would like to ask you. Since you made extractor of those rs5 files, have you made also creator of rs5?
I really would like to create some modification, especially in translation but game does not accept modified files so I need to create rs5 again with new files. Have you got some tips or tricks? :)
