as a bonus, here's a glitched run.

SirBruceX - ref thread 'Possible answer for those just wanting to explore without the Creature'; any chance you could contribute your awesome speedrunning skills to help those who'd like to explore the island without any pressure? :O)

in all the runs i've done i haven't come across the creature which seems to me that its spawning is tied to either crafting parts of the cure, collecting notes, filling in the map or time spent on the island. i haven't done any specific testing yet but i suppose it's worth taking a look, i'll let ye know what i find.

Quite a few people have said the creature doesn't appear for 5-6 days; judging by your videos, it looks like that's true even when you're getting all the plants for the cure.

If you could (i) do a speedrun like the one you've got on Youtube, (ii) save your game as soon as you get the cure, and then (iii) upload the saves.dat file somewhere for the explorers to download, that would be great (especially as you do no triangulation; the maps would be completely blank for them).

BTW, I tried to do a speedrun like yours.
Kept getting completely lost after about five minutes. :(

I fared rather poorly during a number of attempts trying to record a run at first as well. after a while however i came to be fimiliar with the terrain rather well and have since found a few more shortcuts and an overall smoother route. i'll link a save file after i finish another run.

after a bit of testing it seems fairly well confirmed that the start of day 3 is the trigger for the creature existing. i first started by resting until morning of day 3 and went out collecting the pitcher plant and titan plant as usual. after not encountering the creature i went about collecting the mushrooms for the perception emphasis drug. after collecting the trumpet mushroom just before the area with the luminous algae i ran into the creature, after reloading my save and heading directly there i encountered it in the same spot. creating a new save i went there and repeatedly checked the area while resting at a nearby tent. after not encountering it on the morning of the 3rd day i set out north and after a while ran into it. just to make sure if collecting notes and plants or creating medicines had any effect on the creature's appearance i started a new game and set about gathering everything as quickly as possible. after collecting all medicinces, all three emphasis drugs, and 5 of 6 plants required for the cure by the afternoon of day 2 i had yet to encounter the creature at all. after storing the final plant at midnight i set out into the woods and quickly encountered the creature and just as in my past experience was very aggressive at this point. so in conclusion: collecting notes etc. doesn't affect the creature spawning until day 3.

under windows 7 saves are located in C:\Users\~username~\AppData\Roaming\IonFx\Miasmata\
be sure to backup your save if you'd like to keep it.

Brilliant! Just tried it and it worked fine. Many thanks!

I'll start a thread announcing this and put a link to your file. Thanks again.

Day 1, 10 PM (14 hours). I photoshopped the route if anyone wants to try and get it before 8 PM (12 hours)??

It might need a little explaining... but that's the jist of it.

I made sure that the line I drew exactly folllowed the path I took.

It seems possible to shave at least another hour off of the time.

#1: find the stump with the log next to it, then face the swamp
The Hand cursor is pinching the location of the stump and log:

#2: go to the left side of the stump and look at the tree that my cross-hair is pointing at

#3: the algae is behind this tree

ah, i've never seen the algae at night to know that it actually glows and i didn't recognize it as it looks like all the rest of the muck on the water unlike the algae at 'ruin site B' that uses the actual model you pick up.
