Don't waste your money buying Miasmata. Worst graphics imaginable!
I can't believe how bad the quality of the water is for a game I buy in 2013. I've read posts on here that date back 11 months, so why isn't the water issue fixed?

I have an Nvidia GTX580 Lightning, one of the best cards around, and the game looks horrid.

Why no fix?

Did you restart the game after tweaking any quality settings? Water is fine on my GTX 680M

I'd include a screenshot but it comes up blank. It's like static gold tinsel all over the water. Real headache inducing kind of thing.

Also, remember that the game has been developped by only 2 people, but if it was a big team, I would agree.

I paid the money as a consumer for a game, and not for sympathy towards the developers, so I expect it to work. It might sound stern, but it should have been taken off sale if there were known issues or a patch introduced. I'm sure they've done ok for themselves where as I've had to quit work, so forgive me for wanting my money back. As for the picture filthy peasant, if you think that's good graphics then you might want to play a few more games mate.

In a way, I can understand you: for my side, I have bought it while it was on sale, and I think that is the fairest price we could get. So, I would just say to people: you should try to get the game while it is on sale, and not at full price.

Even if it wasn't perfect, this game's visual impact isn't as bad as you're trying to say, surely not the "worst graphics imaginable".
I suppose you've read the "posts on here that date back 11 months" only after the purchase (meaning you didn't even inform yourself about the game you where "wasting money" on) so it's your fault too.
Also, if you enjoy games only for graphics you might want to sit on the couch and watch a movie instead.

Sorry you feel bummed by this.

The game's advanced graphics configuration is locked into custom files and is not editable[miasmata.wikia.com]. Although IonFX have said they look at opening the configuration (which would solve most of the support issues like this one), they appear to be no longer supporting this game anymore.

Edit: If anyone comes across this post and is interested in trying this - you should look into my thread on Miasmod, which greatly simplifies the process of editing the saves.dat and environment files.

While I was working on the community patch I wrote a bunch of Python scripts that can decode & repack the saves.dat and environment files. They're command line only at the moment, but you're welcome to try them and see if you can improve the water.

You'll need to install Python2.7 from here: http://python.org/download/releases/2.7.6/
My Python scripts are here: https://github.com/DarkStarSword/miasmata-fixes

You can decode the saves.dat by running this in a command prompt from the miasmata-fixes directory (replace "dss" with your username):

Z:\miasmata-fixes>c:\Python27\python.exe data.py -d "c:\Users\dss\AppData\Roamin
g\IonFx\Miasmata\saves.dat" -o saves.txt

Repack it with this:

Z:\miasmata-fixes>c:\Python27\python.exe data.py -e saves.txt -o "c:\Users\dss\A
ppData\Roaming\IonFx\Miasmata\saves.dat"

The environment database is a little more involved (I'm assuming you already have my communitypatch.rs5 - if not replace that with environment.rs5):

Z:\miasmata-fixes>c:\Python27\python.exe rs5-extractor.py -xf "c:\Program Files
(x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Miasmata\communitypatch.rs5"
Z:\miasmata-fixes>c:\Python27\python.exe environment.py -d communitypatch\enviro
nment -o environment.txt

Once you have edited environment.txt, repack it with this:

Z:\miasmata-fixes>c:\Python27\python.exe environment.py -e environment.txt -o co
mmunitypatch\environment
Z:\miasmata-fixes>c:\Python27\python.exe rs5-extractor.py -cf "c:\Program Files
(x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Miasmata\communitypatch.rs5" communitypatch --overw
rite

Looks fine to me?

I thought you meant you were suffering an actual bug, like these (induced by changing the water quality without restarting the game):
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=201597321
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=201597964
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=201598397

But your water looks pretty much the same as mine just after starting the game:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=201597584
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=201598730

The appearance of the water will change throughout the game depending on the time of day and weather conditions. When you start the game the weather is always sunny and it's 9AM in the morning, so the horizon is still slightly golden from dawn, and that is reflected in the water. It won't take long for some clouds to appear which will dramatically change the water's appearance.

If it really bothers you you can try tweaking the saves.dat or environment if you like.

Filthy, what you are saying is ridiculous.

If you take the time to view my profile you'll see 168 games. I'd say I'm fairly experienced enough to be able to express an opinion as to whether something is faulty or not. The title is born from my annoyance that the issue was ignored and unresolved yet still available in the Steam store.

Your idea that it is somehow 'my fault' for not thoroughly researching the game for any issues before purchasing is crazy. I'm not playing games on an Atari console after all.

That's pretty much what I'm seeing, but I've tried from low to high on the water settings to no avail. It would give someone a migrain trying to play as it jumps around like exploding tinsel.
