nVidia 3D Vision Fix (Major Update)
Hi Miasmata fans,

If you've noticed I've been quiet lately and have been wondering what I've been up to, the answer is I've been busy learning how to fix stereoscopic rendering issues in games using nVidia's 3D Vision and have become pretty heavily involved in that community.

One of my goals while learning 3D shaderhacking has always been to come back and fix the remaining rendering issues in Miasmata. 3d4dd already released a fix for Miasmata back in 2012, which was enough to make the game playable in 3D and even prompted my second playthrough (which later led to the work I did to support Miasmata with the community patch and tools I released), but there were still a few remaining issues that I always wanted to fix.

By now I've fixed about a dozen games or so in 3D and have learnt enough that I have even been able to develop new techniques for some games, so I decided it was the right time to come back and take another look at Miasmata.

The result is here:

I've been able to fix the water, to remove the seams and alignment issues and to correctly position the real-time reflections underneath the surface. The god rays now work in 3D, with shafts cast from the sun through the trees and landing on the ground on the other side, perfectly lined up with the shadows. I've even done something which I believe may be a first for a community 3D fix - automatically adjusting the depth of the crosshair/cursor to match the object being looked at.

wow.. awesome DSS. I have my graphics 3D capability switched off as I am unable to see in 3D in real world and assumed that would hold true for games - but l will download the fix and see what happens. Thank you!

This is really inspiring! I can't do 3D, but it's cool to hear about somebody not only taking initiative like this, but learning, continuing, and even improving upon other things in the process.

Do you have plans to work in the industry?

I'm not a game developer, but I am a developer - I work as a Software Engineer in one of IBM's open source labs.
