This game is bad, almost unplayable.
due the walking/running/sliding physics. its almost hilarious what you can climb and what not, and you always fall and get fever and get this ♥♥♥♥ and that. if they would be an patch that makes the player walking like a normal person this game is almost enjoyable and worth to buy for this price, but it is still unenjoyable trough that crap.

Because it's easy to climb an almost vertical hill.

Keep at it. Once thing you're missing is the meta-game around the game. Read up for spoilers, or play on and find out about it yourself. Basically devs built it with the complete intention of doing that. "Ah, but why?" I hear you ask. Well that's the big question, isn't it?

I wrote some newbie advice here take a look if you need some help, there's plenty of other advice in that thread too.

Agreed, though on an ordinary computer monitor it isn't always apparent just how steep some of the slopes in this game really are nor how deep the water is ("how did I drown in two feet of water?" is a common question to which I reply "if it was only two feet, why were you treading water?"). Playing this game in 3D vision with max separation makes the scale of things much more apparent.

OP: Stick with it, everyone finds the controls awkward when they first start playing because it's so different to any other game, but you do get used to it pretty quickly and after a while even forget it's there. The devs pursposely added the inertia system to make navigating the terrain one of the biggest challenges in this game, and it makes the encounters with the creature all the more stressful as running away from it at full bolt through unfamiliar terrain is a quite risky affair when you realise that you were running towards a cliff and can't quite stop yourself in time...

I wrote some advice on the movement system in my reply to a+b in this post which might help you out a bit:

Don't generalize. I don't remember finding them awkward, and I liked much better how the character moves in this game than in other FPP games, but I'd need to install it once again some time to refresh my memory. If I found them awkward then only until I reached the 1st camp.

Not to mention, remember that he is inflicted with an extremely dangerous and lethal disease. There's a very good chance that if it makes him dehydrate very quickly, that it will also make him very weak. I know I'm really weak when I have the flu, and this is supposedly worse than the flu. You get fever when you fall because your body is weakened by it. The effort of bracing your fall makes your body more susceptible to the plague and you get fever. You can only run for a few seconds because of the plague. A lot of the movement mechanics that a healthy, agile person would not do, are excusable because HE HAS THE ♥♥♥♥ING PLAGUE!!!

Its hilarious that you run around like you are on ice, cant go up and fall down every time

Thank god, somebody said it. As you get told at the beginning of the game: you're sick and about to die so you can't expect to climb mountains cheerfully while being fatally ill.

do you count walking on grass countin as climbing on a hill? well, this is where you stuck mostly.
jakylime Jun 24 @ 2:45pm
I will be the first to admit you do walk like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ on roller skates, but... you will get used to the mechanics. Its worth it! use trees to slow you down

I love the controls! I try to climb up a hill that would be impossible to master in any other first person game, because other heros are so busy holding their guns to use their hands while climbing. Step by step, will I make it? Of course not! Fever stroke! I slide down to where I started. The floor should be able to support me, so I can... oh, it's stable enough to support me while walking slowly, but it's to slippery to catch me while sliding down an almost vertical wall.

The controls feel very close to what I feel, when I am hiking in the mountains after a week of rain. I wish more games had a focus on details like this.

Meaning?
jakylime Jul 4 @ 3:23pm
It is more lifelike that most first person games but... you still "drift" around corners which is unatural
Gon Freecss Jul 4 @ 3:26pm
even if you got the flu, you shouldnt supposed to run around like you are on roller skates, and + running so ♥♥♥♥ing fast and long.
