It's not under active development right now, but there is some hope that it may get another official update in the future. In the meantime be sure to check out the unofficial community patch if you haven't already.

This is an excerpt on the subject from an email Bob sent me earlier this year:
You're right, we have suffered from a little burn out, and after almost 5 years we just had to log-off and take time to re-discover our creativity and our motivation. We felt pretty embarrased leaving things like achievements not fully fixed, but we just needed to draw a line in the sand for ourselves.

Joe and I have actually talked about bringing out another update at some point. We're in the middle of developing our next game, but we'll hopefully try to find some time in the coming months fix some things and maybe add a feature or two.

ah! update and new game? Is there a website we can keep track of these developments DSS?

No, they haven't posted anything on their site, which makes me think that it is still a long way off. I summarised what we do know about their next game (which isn't much) on this post:

This game , I played it when it came out, and it was just like, man...I couldn't wait to go home to just load it up, and then just walk around scared on the island and drink beer and try to just, get out of the island but not wanting the game to actually end. This game made me feel things I didn't know video games could make you feel, mostly in terms of immersion...And since then, all the games I've played have felt a lil'

yes, it has an edge-of-your-seat quality doesn't it. You don't NEED ghouls and zombies and hanging bodies to make a game 'work' ( you listening all you devs out there?) There are safe places in this game, but once you are outside - and you have to go outside - there is the constant threat that you are going to meet HIM round the next corner - and where ya gonna hide, where ya gonna run? Brilliant!

@futsukaboy-JP - yeah, I know what you mean. I'm now playing Dark Souls, and it's a great game, but after 80+hours it hasn't come close to being as intense as it felt playing Miasmata. Which is weird, cuz in DS I'm getting attacked by monsters the size of a small town. In Miasmata, all that'd be happening would be - I'd be walking along a path. Completely lost. And the sun was getting low in the sky.
That's it. And I would be terrified.

I know, even the thought that the creature was near had me always looking for a bush to hide in, just in case
