The Brink Tragedy
I don't know about you guys, but Brink is probably the single biggest disapointment in my entire gaming career. I remember when they first announced brink and had it for preorder like a year before it came out, and EVERY trailer and artwork and screenshot painted this beautiful picture of an intense story driven shooter with real freedom of movement and cod4 levels of pure shooting enjoyment. Every trailer they released hyped me up more and more and more and more for this game, even up to launch it seemed like nothing could possibly go wrong. Then the game comes out and the in game story was just ♥♥♥♥ing gone, replaced by little audio logs at the loading screens. All that tension and real gameplay just cut for no reason. The guns turned into peashooters with ridiulously bulletspongy enemies and almost no recoil; which together gives the shooting a very bland feel. I just don't know what happened. Here's hoping they learn from their mistakes, and make the next Enemy Territory level hit.

I think it's primarily your tragedy and the tragedy of those who failed to understand this game and how to realize its great potential and quality, it's your problem. Stay better at COD, BF and CS (...your games! ). This is obviously too complex game for you If your focus is only on the guns and shooting, which is fantastic by the way.... :)))

Brink is an excellent objective team based shooter, which requires a lot of hours playing and studying tactics and never get bored as long as he played. By this I do not mean to single player or co-op campaign against bots, only a online versus multiplayer (8x8 or 5x5) with real people and only few bots...

Sadly, many have not been in a situation to play in such a strong Brink battles and their experiences based on trivial stuff and bad singleplayer....

Totally agree with JEZ. What are you complaining about anyway, lotuspulse? The game was released in may 2011 and here in september 2013 you finally find out that the pre-release marketing was a little overdone for your taste?? There a few hundred execellet online gaming hours in that game, wich is more than most shooters can offer in my humble opinion. The team expierence in good, the maps have the right atmosphere and the background story is different and exactly what it should be. Personally, I especially like the avatar-part of the game.

However, each player´s got his own taste, and I do respect your opinon, lotuspulse. I just don´t understand what your message is. About marketing: NEVER make a buying-decision based on marketing statements alone. Ask friends, try out the game or check out metacritics at least, otherwise you´re signing up for disappointment most of the time.

to jez: don't get me wrong, I LOVED enemy territory quake wars, and it's more in depth and complex game play, and arma2, which just aren't on my steam account, i have varied tastes, so don't just blame me also playing cod on me not liking the game. and to jimmu: I just saw brink in my games list and wanted to share my experience, I know its not relevant right now.
And let me clarify: I don't think brink is a BAD game, i just think its no where close to what it could have been

I pre ordered Brink and i agree with lotus. I did have a lot of time for Splash Damage as i loved ET and Quake Wars. But most players that have Brink will say the game was way off what it should have been and lacked polish and felt more like a MOD from a diffrent game due to the lag and console port feel, Players left and i put in a good few hours but also droped off and gave up trying to get into the game , And i gave it longer then most as i wanted this to do well.
Maybe SD and to rush the game out for the deadline in the end and never wanted to catch it up in patching it out later who knows. So just blame BETHESDA for the push .

The main problem is that no one from dev has instructed players how properly configured game setup to work without lag and using big FOV, all this allow players optimal and fast moving with wider space. When you look at the many Brink videos on YouTube, from the time when the game came out, can be seen that 90% of the players playing the game completely wrong and slow, with catastrophic setup. Many players have given up but not come up to 50% of the abilities, or that they don't have unlocked all weapons and add-ons over the challenges. Only then can be entitled to the enjoyment of the game and be competitive in online multiplayer.

Look at my Brink videos, everything is perfect, players flying and there is no any lag even in hard online multiplayer battles with full teams. I really do not see what would be added to the game or subtract to be ideal in this final stage - in which is Brink now.

I agree with OP, I preorered this game, was hyped about it. But the game itself sucked, the long faces get old after a while and , i got bored a week after release.
And OP is right afterall,
The game was out of the top 150 within 3 months. Game is pretty much nothing but multiplayer from what i remember. And the game suffered (horribly) for it.

The problem was they marketed this to ET players and the gunplay we got was awful. Inaccurate peashooters and slow gameplay.

5-6 Brink rifles are realy great and can be used ih high skilled battles.
Also, gun sound is amazing.
Nice video about guns in Brink (how create perfect guns sound and explosion, they used orginal weapons for this...)

It doesn't matter their was no headshot hunting metagame. A good player couldn't down 3 or more guys in a one magazine. The weapons could make burping sounds for all I care. We were led to believe we'd get something like this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXGUpaJIy6g

yeah i miss ET, and especially quake wars (in my top 5 all time). I did enjoy Brink to a point, but even when it's 5v5 humans online the game still somehow feel like a spam fest because there's alot of corridors, and overall lacking the wide open spaces i was expecting. I think i just went in with the typical Splash Damage expectations of these HUGE sprawling maps. The speed of the gameplay doesn't matter to me, as long as it's enjoyable.

And yes, Brink does take a while to learn everything (trick jumps and what not) but i just couldn't find that MAGIC that would make me invest literally over 2,000 hours like i did in Quake Wars and Wolf ET.

Of course, Brink also has probably one of the most frustrating maps i've ever played.....damn, i can't even remember the name of it......where you have to hack the missle launcher at the end.....whether i've played it online or with bots (even on easy) i've only beaten the level once from the offensive side.

I still think this game had the fastest death rate ever.
Was popular for about a month, they released a "FREE" dlc, and everyone played for a nother week. and that was it.
