I have X3:TC (hard copies) and others of that series and I don't think this game is anything like them at all, to be honest. If that's the x3 you're talking about?

This game is not like X3, there is basically no trading. While you can collect some items and minerals, none of that is properly integrated into the game, it's just a left over from the times when they tried to turn this game into a MMO. What the game provides is a mostly linear and story driven single player experience, very similar to what Descent 3 provided back in the day.

I have played withone other player in co-op before but, that's about it. This game is turned out to be a big let down for me. I registered on their forums in it's earyl developement and watched this game, dl'd the demos and all waiting for it to be released and all I got is what this game is now. It's nothing like they started out for it to be, that's for sure. Once they got funding, they wrapped it up as a sort pf space arcade shooter and sold it then, made the codes, Open Source and dumped the game. Was very disappointed.

The single player campaign is pretty damn good for what it is. I mean it's understandable that people got a little ♥♥♥♥♥♥ of that the whole MMO aspect didn't (yet) go anywhere, but when you take the game for what it is, not for what you expected it to be, it's really good and about as good as one could hope a spiritual Descent successor to be. My only complaint about the game would be that they could have cleaned it up a little more, as it takes a bit to figure out what parts are actually the proper game and what are unusable left over from the MMO times.

It still has always online DRM, even though they said it was removed 2 years ago. They deliberately removed finished features of the game. They charge recurring fees that can't be canceled for a game that they never intended to develop. These fees continue even if you get a different card.
