So far the best space game i've played, and if you look at my profile you'll see i have almost every space game avalaible :D
im with u on this one i got a game ones and it sucked all aronud was bad and it was a port
Reading reviews is important, as I will now do before buying a game. I really, really wanted to like this game. The title sounds cool, and the concept seemed unique to me; that was until I tried it myself. The tutorial, if that was even a tutorial, was probably the hardest tutorial I've ever done in my life. And I am no mediocre gamer, I adore video games with challenge, but that's only if the challenge has adequate controls, like dark souls. (I only say dark souls because demon's souls is a joke for anyone having played both and then plays the first game again.)
Why are the controls obnoxiious?
1. You aim with the mouse. - This is okay and expected.
2. W moves foward, S moves backward, A moves left, D moves right. - So far not so bad right? pretty standard.
3. Q - rotate ship counter clockwise. E - rotate ship clockwise. - A bit more advanced, but we'll get used to it right?
4. F - Vertical ship thrust (upward). C - Vertical ship thrust (downard). - Still more advanced, but with time we'll master it.
5. So these are the basic controls, and why are they obnoxious? I guess the developers expect you to be able to instantly master their controls, because it throws you right into the action with every survival aspect all at once. You are required to pick up ammo, armour, oxygen, and probably something else. These items are scattered through the mission zone as you fly through this giant mining station, I'm actually not sure what it is.
6. Also, you die very easily if you stand still, (some might say, "Duh.") but here's the main issue I have with this whole new concept. If I strafe and shoot, my accuracy decreases greatly, which means more ammo is consumed and I hit air most of the time since I'm new to the controls, which are EXTREMELY touchy I might add. But if I stay still still and shoot I take tons of damage. So, the next option is to strafe and time your shots, since that's what one would do if they were trying really hard to make it through a level while still being new to the controls. Oh, but wait, we have oxygen levels too? So now that 60 seconds it just took to kill that one enemy without being scathed or missing a single shot caused me to have low oxygen. So you see, you can't win unless you endlessly attempt this game with the intention of beating it, and not having fun.
I wasn't sure if maybe my graphics were set too high for the game, as the controls weren't being quite as fluid as I had hoped. I hit escape, and went to the options, the box labeled video has a big "X" through it and can't be clicked. Yeah, that's right, the video options are stuck. I can run WoW on Ultra at 60fps, this game should not be a problem, but this is another downside.
So, why I stopped playing it?
I put up with all of the above, because I refused to give up, I refused to admit that I just wasted $6.74, (or $6.75 or something like that) but then after failing the second level time and time again and having to wait for the obnoxious load times I started boosting, which is the left shift button. Well, the to get the most out of your boost, one must repeatedly tap it so it doesn't depleate so quickly and you still go pretty fast. And we all know what happens when we hit shift like seven times in a row in rapid succession, sticky keys turns on and a little window pops up minusing our game down. And it was at this point that minerwars crashed on me. I just sighed and decided to write my first review, I'm not even sure if this is the right place to write one.
So maybe I should play the entire game to have a real opinion on it, but I'd rather not chance it.
Okay, now I see I'm replying to someone's post. Alright, hope this helps!
If you have to buy this game then get it at a bargain basement price dont pay full price.
If this truly is a 3D game, mouse and keyboard just can't be enough. If possible, I'd use my old joystick or at least an xbox controller. I'd never expect to pull off descent-like maneuvers with just a keyboard and mouse.
Still, doesn't sound very good.
How is the multiplayer, though? Are there bots for that? I enjoyed the crap out of Forsaken on N64 just because the multiplayer was so damn good and it had bots (imo was better than the PC version).
Controls are perfect, and fluid, if you find that hiting Q and E for rotating is "advanced" then you obviously played very few PC games, if you cant handle like 10 or more keys with your left hand i would strongly recomend you to unistall steam and come back to your glorious consoles and gamepads. This indeed is the best controller scheme i've seen in a space sim game
Tutorial? really? you need one for playing this? lmao
I would understand people complaining of a lack of tutorial in games like Arma2 and DayZ, because are controlled in a non standard way and are hard to master, but this? omg
Another funny sentence is that some of you say that the game abuse the drill, hahahahahahhaaha, have you read the game's title? it's called "MINER" Wars, really, if you dont like mining mechanics in a game, dont play minecraft or miner wars guys.
I play this game with dual joysticks: 6 analog axes.
Logitech Extreme 3D Pro on left hand, MS Sidewinder 3D Pro on right hand.
Both merged into a single virtual joystick.
Well not sure I was what 9 year old that time?! (27 now)
