So much complaining, so much nonsense.... The argument about DRM is dead.
First of all I'll state that I'm in no way related to KSH (the developers). I'm just a paying customer.

I'm tired of all the childish complaining about the DRM.

This is utterly nonsense...

There is NO "fine print". The always online requirement is printed in RED LETTERS in the products page, repeated tree (3) times and ended with exlamation marks.... (!)

http://www.minerwars.com/Products.aspx

And even in the Steam's requirements paragraph it's ended with exclamation marks.

NOTHING IS HIDDEN : It has been known for years.

Another thing for you all:
In case you didn't know, the game goes on running fine without internet, after the login.
This is for all you complaining about the "always online" requirement, and unstable connections, etc etc etc.

Your argument is dead.

You expect people to visit the official page of every game they're going to buy? I know I sure don't. I do check forums though, so everything worked out alright.

The issue with Steam is that this sort of this isn't generally listed under system requirements. It's listed on the sidebar and marked as third party DRM. Not everyone checks system requirements if they're confident in their conputer's specs.

If the game can run fine without internet, why the crap do we have to login in the first place? That means that there's not server side code vital to the singleplayer experience. Including the save files, which means cheating can easily be done. This also means there's no good reason to restrict the singleplayer experience like this. The only reason at this point is DRM. Steam does this already, but it's semi-understandable because this game is on other platforms. That being said, this is a small-time indie company. If they're not willing to unlock the game's singleplayer now, what makes you think they'd do it if their server went down?

Heck, for that matter, if the game works without the connection after start, what makes you think pirates won't smash through this DRM freakishly fast by packet analysis? Actually, a quick google search indicates that this seems to have happened already... 3 days ago.

DRM is DRM. It slaps the customer for things they're not doing. Some are far worse than others. Some is inherintly higher risk for the LEGITIMATE USER.

Lavian Dec 4, 2012 @ 7:06pm
NO. I haven't played the game because it has dumb DRM. THAT'S THE POINT.

I wouldn't have bought Torchlight 2 if Runic tried to pull this crap either.

Coincidentally, Miner Wars has already dropped far below Torchlight II in the sales rankings, despite the latter being released months ago. I would like to think the Miner Wars Defense Force would take that as a hint, but they don't seem to catch on that quickly.

Calling people stupid? All your arguments are invalidated instantly.
Lavian Dec 4, 2012 @ 8:04pm
To be fair... I don't think he was calling me stupid. Saying that a person is being stupid isn't the same as calling them stupid. Perhaps "being stubborn" or something would have been better wording on his part, but it doesn't in itself invalidate his posts. Even then, ad-hominem attacks don't actually invalide points if points are made (they don't help though).

On the other hand his posts have little to do with the content of mine, and his facts are twisted (or at least misleading). You don't have to be connected constantly to play (according to the OP), but you do have to log in to play. I addressed that. He did not address my response. These facts do invalidate his posts directed at me.

It doesn't help that they're actually really difficult to read either.

I prefer to play solo, but I gladly answer any question you have, if I know the answer.

Chavo, no te calientes.

I'm only one guy that has found that the game is playable in singleplayer in OFFLINE mode.
No internet connection is required after the login. If your connection drops, you are good to continue playing seamlessly.

See details on the other thread about the failed petition for offline play.

Tranquilo amigo!

Oh I'm chill alright, it is you who is doing the rounds calling names and stating that anybody who thinks different than you is wrong. You have every right to defend your game and your company, problem here is, Miner Wars and the company behind it will hardly recover from this blow, not only it was a very poorly made business decision to compare themselves to the big names out there and attempt to pull this always on crap on their customers, their behavior has been erratic and contradictory, statements have been made here by the company rep. that were best left untold and that by now are floating all across the web.

It is too late to turn back now, that priceless thing called trust has been lost, and it sucks, not only for them, for gamers too, for me, because I'm a passionate indie supporter, and I wanted very much to support this game and company, but after all this, I just can't.

Key words here, after the login...

To put it simply, you are required to have internet and required for the developer's servers to be up to play the game.

It dosen't matter that you could connect to their servers and then disconnect the internet, if their servers are dead in the first place.

I repeat: if you purchased from steam: YOU DON'T HAVE TO LOGIN TO *THEIR* SERVERS.
Your steam account will suffice.
