Miner Wars Top Speed only 130M/S??
Just got this game. Is top speed really this limited?

Also, when using afterburner with inertial damperners off I slow down again when the boost runs out? What's slowing me down I'm in space? Ok, this seems a great shame, the game could be a much more convincing simulator with the silly limits removed. My immersion is totaly destroyed, unless there is a mod or something where you can go faster and not have such silly unbelievable physics (the slowing down issue) then I can't play this. Can you get refunds off steam? Also, does anyone know of any games with more convincing physics such as Babylon 5 IFH or Independance War 2, which despite a couple of issues, at least had a decent stab at it. The makers of this game should play I-War 2 for an idea of a game with fairly good space physics that is also a lot of fun and works very well. Someone needs to start making decent space combat sims again. I know this is about being in asteroids too etc, but no reason it can't still be convincing in open space.

I also noticed this and it made me sad. Is anyone interested in a mod to raise the speed limit? I don't have a ton of time (working on other programming projects) but I might be able to come up with something.

Speed cap all gone. I found this in the source:

// Slowdown movement over a fixed velocity (e.g. 120 m/s) even if engine slowdown is off
// let's pretend it dissipates as heat or something

Which made me equal parts sad and amused. Here are my changes: https://github.com/nopoe/Miner-Wars-2081/tree/physics

I can package the modified dll's if anyone wants to actually use the mod. Just comment here. I'm subscribed to the discussion steam will let me know. I tried to make it balanced but won't have time to actually play it for a while. The game will feel more sluggish because I lowered engine force, but you can go a lot faster (I got to 1000m/s in a few seconds outside with an afterburner and inertial dampeners off). I also lowered fuel consumption a bit because I expect you'll be using the engines more now that the force is lowered and the speed cap is gone. I slowed down AI too becuase I thought they were a bit hard to hit.

You have gone to a lot of trouble it seems! Well, I will have ot have a go with it when I get chance. I think there may have been other elements of the game I was unsure of too, but it is worth testing this out. I always thought the same about the Eternal Silence mod also regarding the speed limit being too low. If it wasn't for that the space sim elememnt would have been much better. It would have needed bigger maps too though. For now I have gone back to good old Independence Day 2 for my space combat fix, on the instant action mode.

Here's the mod. It's a bunch of dll's you put in your MinerWars/bin directory, which will be inside your steam library, replacing the previous ones.

PLEASE back up that bin directory before replacing any of the files there because that makes it easier to remove this mod.

Also they're dll files which means you ought to scan them with an antivirus program and such.

Another heads-up. To completely remove the top speed you need to turn off inertial dampeners (default key: x). I think I doubled top speed with inertial dampeners enabled and reduced engine power a bit to make it feel like you're flying something that has weight but can really get going once it has some time to accelerate.

It's funny that you say I've gone to a lot of trouble though... Honestly it took about as long to put together the .zip, upload it and write this out as it did to actually make the edits. Finding the parts I needed to change was hard though because the codebase is HUGE.

Hope it works for you! It's a different feel than I-War 2, I think, but it's still fun. I play it with dual-joysticks and pedals, so it's extremely fun for me. I could see why people wouldn't like it if they just had a mouse though.
