Yes, and I far as I know at least the classic theme is from Chris Hülsbeck who composed the music for the original game. I don't know how many people from the original game worked on this, but most of the people who made this game made the DS/iOS game, which feels more like the original.

Armin Gessert (who has since passed away) made the original and later founded Spellbound. Spellbound went out of business but reformed as Black Forest Games, the developers of Twisted Dreams.

I had the great Giana sisters on the Amiga 500+
Even tho it got removed from sale as it was a "rip off" of Super mario bros i still loved the game. Probably still have it up in the loft somewhere

It is defintly based on the original Giana Sisters on the good old "Brotkasten" C=64 - i really love this one since there are new features and of course music from the great Master Chris Huelsbeck. Hopefully there will be a new Turrican in this style i would love it !

I remember there being a big fuss over Giana Sisters and Mario Bros. over how similar they were. Never did take the time to play the original. The new one looks fun though, and I'm glad to see a classic come back. Now we need a new Impossible Mission on the PC.

Actually i think the original Giana Sisters was the first real copyright infringement case involving video games. They didn't really start enforcing that stuff until after Giana Sisters got pulled of the shelves =)

In the credits, a Gessert is listed as Quality Control. I think that's Armin's wife, but I could be wrong. Nonetheless, YES, this is very much influenced by the original creators (and, of course, all of us who have loved the c64 game. And the not quite as good Amiga version (: ) In my opinion, this is a great expansion to the c64 game (:

I remember playing the original.
had a blast even though the game was just a right ♥♥♥♥ mario clone.
The DS game is good though.

I am surprised more game reviewers have not jumped up and down about this game considering its roots.

maybe we are just getting that old, that alot of the reviewers don't even know of such classics?

You are all correct! Armin Gessert founded Spellbound, which later became Black Forest Games. The game was put on hiatus for a long time due to insufficient resources to produce it, until now, with the success of our Kickstarter campaign. Because we published it ourselves, we were able to capture what our creative director, who founded the company with Gessert, and Gessert himself envisioned the sisters' sequel to be, an ode to the original, but unique and fun on its own.

I hope you guys can get this game more branding / recognition as it surely deserves it by looking at the game play videos and what not ive seen, maybe pass some demos out to reviewers and give them a bit of information regarding the roots of this game and its creators?

Oh believe me, we have been scowering reviewers all over the world. Most large sites will be this week, or the next 2 weeks, our marketing team is small but dedicated, and passionate! With the help of you guys, we are reaching out for all the coverage we can.

Well I loved the C64 title. It was a really fun game, with memorable music, stage designs, and looked amazing for it's time. I remember drawing out the maps, and whenever discovering a warp block drawing it in. It was one of my favorite Commodore 64 games which is why I bought this one, and I'm glad I did. Aside from wanting to rip my hair out during the final boss section (Seriously it was one of the hardest boss battles I've ever played) it's one of the best platformers I've played this gen. This was really good. So good in fact I bought a second Steam Key, and gifted it to my friend for his birthday. I hope it does well enough to become a franchise. Because to me it can clearly hang with the likes of Mario, Sonic, Mega Man, or Rayman.
