The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Mods are all gone?
So I get the Anthology for my birthday yesterday and decide I want to go back to Morrowind. First thing I do is try and DL my "must have mods" and all hell has broken loose. Nexus had some mods, Steam has apparently tossed all MW mods altogether, and even Gamespy has shut it all down. Then to top it off I discover I have to pay for mods, but only maybe, except they don't exist anymore and they did this all on my birthday.

Is this some kind of a joke? (rhetorical.) If they want me to pay for mods now, I guess I have no choice but to bend over and pay, but there's nothing out there any more. (Nexus is the only site still working with MW mods, other than the rare individuals keeping their stuff up.)

Anyone know when/if this situation will be resolved?

It's not as broken as you think.

* Planet Elder Scrolls shut down about two years ago.
* Nexus still has Morrowind mods. Try here.[www.nexusmods.com]
* You can also try Morrowind Mod History[mw.modhistory.com] (which hosts most of the mods in Planet Elder Scrolls) and Great House Fliggerty[www.fliggerty.com].
* You don't have to pay for mods. Skyrim is currently the only game in this "paid mod" travesty and other modding sites are still free. Morrowind doesn't even have a workshop, so Steam didn't (and probably won't, considering the game's age) toss anything about Morrowind.

LOL Thanks Egomaster... I guess I'm showing how long it's been since I last played MW. I'm hoping it's been long enough I no longer have it memorized, the main reason I stopped. I've hit Nexus up, but they're missing a LOT of the files I loved... like NoM, MC, Pegas, the Vampire mods (Embrace, etc.) Worse, it hinted at a MC 2. I guess I'm off to Modhistory and Fliggerty's (glad to see he's still around.)

Thanks again.

Vampire Embrace is still at the Nexus.[www.nexusmods.com] You have to login to list mods with adult themes.

Since I find Necessities of Morrowind a bit overdone, I would urge you to try a much more lightweight mod called Basic Needs. It does the same thing but uses Morrowind's assets.

I didn't try the other mods so I can't help you there. What is MC by the way? :)

Happy birthday rtucker16! The Mod Community is FAR from dead :P

Oh, also, you literally seem to have ignored the fact that Morrowind never has and never will have a Steam Workshop, and the only game you can currently pay for mods on the workshop is Skyrim, and whether or not you have to pay for a mod is at the discretion of the mod author.

Quick tip, EgoMaster, you can do bulleted lists with the [] [] formatting done like so.

  • Type "list" in square brackets, without spaces and then press "enter". Also make sure to press "enter" each time you want to make a new bullet point.
  • Put an asterisk in square brackets before each line you want to turn into a new bullet point.
  • When you're finished with your list, press "enter" and type [] without the spaces.

You can also do numbered lists by replacing "list" and "/list" with "olist" and "/olist"

Well, as others have pointed out, Morrowind Modding History is place to go to for the vast majority of mods. MMH has a database of around 16,000 mods, including pretty much every classic that's not available from the Nexus. Really, we ought to get a sticky for Morrowind Modding History, a lot of people apparently don't know about it...

If you need some additional mod suggestions, we cover 13 new mods every week on Morrowind Modding Showcases, and I've included a few of the major mod recommendation lists below:

UESP Mod Recommendations Thread (Large list, links out of date but pretty much all mods can be found on MMH) - http://forums.uesp.net/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18469&sid=957d0638ca925ec4e394acbf004a5dd4

Steam never had Morrowind mods.

A lot of tiny sites just had to move on. The world changes.

Nope. Nope. Nope. No one if forcing you to use any mods. Thousands upon thousands of mods on Steam, less than twenty are pay-for.

What is there to resolve?

"What is there to resolve?" is a good summation of this issue. It's not the end of the world. A few Skyrim mods cost money. Not a big deal. Steam will probably never charge for Morrowind mods because there will almost certainly never be a Morrowind Workshop.

Right now I don't think the situation is perfect, but that's not surprising: this is a brand new thing for Steam. After a while I have faith that things will be ironed out, and I'm not opposed to paying a couple of dollars for a mod if I feel it's worth my money.

I remember the first DLC that went on sale on Xbox Live was the infamous horse armor for Oblivion (correct me if I'm wrong). It was a crappy start, but things got better.

Wow, thanks for all the help and info. I guess MW Mod History is the new place for me, though even it still has Gamespy as a mirror for most of it's mods. It really does need more mention... when I posted this it was after several hours of "Google-Fu" and never once did MW Mod History come up as a hit (at least not in the first 5 or 6 pages.) You would think after 2 years down Gamespy would have fewer hits.

As for those who somehow woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, I guess I should explain if it weren't for Skyrim I woulod never have tried Steam. Like it or not, I was forced (yes forced) to use Steam if I wanted to play Skyrim. The last time I stopped playing Skyrim and went back to MW, PES (Gamespy) was still up. So I never needed to nor bothered to look and see if Steam had MW mods. SO, I hope you can understand the confusion when the first time I look for them here, I find nothing but a firestorm about pay for mods, one of which stated something about mods are taken down, wait there they are, no they're not... blah blah blah. While I appreciate the history lesson on what Steam has and has not had in the past, it's not very helpful nor relevant.

As for the pay for mods debate, this one was resolved (for me) years ago during the whether DRM would be forced on users or not debate. This was one of the issues that we were told would NEVER happen, even voluntarily. Thing is, I and others were very familiar with progressive scams and how they operate, we weren't fooled then. I'm not fooled now. Eventually, you will have to pay for everything, including user submitted mods. Thing is, I also know better than to protest, we don't have a choice nor a say in it. As I said, it was decided they were going to do this years ago, so I don't know why people are bothering to blow smoke up our butts in defending it.

Now, for specific replies. Reformed Pirate, Egomaster, and Darkekfguy, thank you again for the helpful info. (And RP, thanks for the B-Day wishes.) Brandybuck, not sure if I'd call Planet Elder Scrolls a tiny site, but either way, like most people, I'm familiar with how the internet works. LOL And as for the situation, I was referring to that in my OP, where MW mods were unavailable, yet I knew the MW community wouldn't let them just go away. I did not realize there was already a site (Mod History) that already resolved the situation. As I said, I've been gone for years, and by sheer coincidence I returned on the very day they went into this phase.

It's kind of like returning home after years away, and while you expect things to have changed, you don't expect to open the front door and there's a full out wild western style bar room brawl taking place. :)

You're totally right about Morrowind Modding History. I didn't know anything about that site until just a few months ago. All I knew about was Nexus. Unfortunate, but not surprising considering a Google search for "Morrowind Mods" doesn't bring it up (at least not in the first four pages, but honestly who's going to search for Morrowind mods and go farther than four pages deep before finding something).

Here's a pretty big active mod site.
http://www.moddb.com/games/morrowind/mods
Where a lot of the mods have migrated to.
