Controller Support?
Does this game have 360/ONE controller support? I read somewhere that it does.

Yes and No. It does have native support, but the game was built using an older version of DirectX, ( DirectInput not Xinput).

What this means is that some things won't map exactly correctly with your newer ( Xinput) controller.

You have several options. Two spring to mind immediately. One is 20 bucks, the other is FREE.

The 20 dollar option ( sometimes cheaper) is to buy a Logitech F 310 ( or the F 710 wireless).
These have a little switch that lets you select DirectX or DirectInput.
Select "D" ( DirectInput) for Morrowind (and other "old" games).

The FREE option is JoyToKey. This allows you to emulate your Mouse and Keyboard with your gamepad . I've used this and it works great. You can look around, move and everything else just like the original Xbox version with this after you set it up.

Also, you can just plug your XInput gamepad in and select "enable joystick" in the Option menu, but you won't be able to look around with the right stick ( you can only look left and right with the rudders).

If you want to emulate the Xbox controls, you'll need either of the two option listed above or possibly Xpadder as many swear by it, but I've never used it.

EDIT: Swapped DirectInput and Xinput as the Steam user, "The Mechanist" pointed out that I originally listed them exactly backwards.

I'll try that out, thanks!

DirectInput= Old Standard. Most likely the Standard MW uses
XInput = New Standard.
I think you mixed up some stuff here ;)
Anyway whatever is used a F710 would handle it ;) However Morrowind is not really playable with a gamepad since there is no proper interface controll as far as I know. You you are better using mouse and keyboard in my opinion. But you know, whatever floats yer boat ;)

EDIT: I corrected my original post, "The Mechanic" had it right, I had it wrong, thereby making this post seem backwards.

Doh! You're right, I did write it exactly backwards. Not sure why I did that. So yeah, set it to "D" for DirectInput to play old games..or use JoyToKey.

Note: If you do use JoyToKey, be sure you disable "Enable Joystick" as you'll be emulating kb/mouse.

I do, however completely disagree with " Morrowind is not really playable with a gamepad since there is no proper interface controll."

I originally played Morrowind on the original Xbox and once I set it up in the options menu on PC, it works great. Not "exactly" like the Xbox experience, but not clunky or odd, IMHO.

I do see your point about the menus though, you'll want to still use a mouse. I use a wireless mouse, and since opening menus pauses the game it doesn't bother me to grab my wireless tracball for menu scrolling, but I see your point that some might not find this acceptable being as it isn't "exactly" like the Xbox version.

I lubs me F710..except for the "deadzones". It's my go to for anything that's not a FPS.

I personally only tried the ingame support for the controller once upon a time long long ago :D Therefore my memory might be not that accurate, especially since I'm not a "controller type". For me they are most useful in platformers, zelda-a-like and racing games ;)
F710: Great controller. Too sad it has that horrible PS layout instead of the wonderful asymetric X-Box style :( And the button clicks are quiet loud. Still bought it in case I wanted to player older game/because it works out of the book in Android :)
