The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The trouble with "fixing" Morrowind
as many years as it's been, and as many code ovehauls have been done, it amazes me that no one has been able to figure out how to stop Morrowind crashing so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ always.

It's not a problem with the game, it's a problem that's consistent with Gamebryo games. It's just gotten slightly better through all the years. It amazes me that it is still possible to get Skyrim to crash like this pretty consistently without trying much.
Elder Scrolls games were always buggy. Morrowind had a much more better launch than it's predecessor, Daggerfall but it still had lots of bugs.
I haven't had a problem with crashing with morrowind or Skyrim. Maybe a few frameskips here and there but that's about it.

Its almost like we need a whole new code base (OpenMW).
it's not Gamebryo's fault, it's Bethesda's crappy iteration of it
As funny as it is, I JUST now figured out that using the windowed option in MGSO fixes alt tab crashing, because it runs the game in a borderless window. Makes it easy to search the wiki while in game without having to quit the game every time.
It's a Bethesda game. The fans would get the wrong ideas if there wouldn't be CTDs every now and then. Besides, Bethesda can (and does) always rely on the happy modding community to fix their crap.
It's simply morrowind's base code. It's a pile of arse in the modern era.
Since making the change I mentioned previously, I have not suffered a single crash in over 10 hours of gameplay. Pretty happy right now.

Good for you :) And then there will be the day where you think: Ahh I will just install this little mod here because it's so nice. What harm could it do...and then everything is FUBAR..and you never get it back to it's original state.
You know that and I know that, but we still do it ;)

Bad news since then I've experienced two crashes haha. Still way better than it used to be... crashes every like hour it was.
The bugs are a problem with all TES games, unfortunately. Mods can sometimes help make the game more stable. Even to this day Daggerfal (with mods) are quite buggy. Some console commands are, frankly, needed if you play Daggerfall.
