Morrowind Mods
Are there any mods available to change the HORRIBLE combat in Morrowind? I despise Morrowind for that alone, everything else I've seen is ... acceptable due to it's age, but the combat couldn't be worse! Please tell me that there's something that at least brings it up to Oblivion level!

Could be you're just not understanding the combat, in which case you may want to give this a read: http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Combat

Otherwise, I hear there's a mod out there called Accurate Attack that makes all attacks connect if they're within range. Not sure which aspect of the combat you might find horrible, beyond that.

Edit: nvm, see post below. =D

Don't understand the combat? I was missing and getting killed by MUDCRABS when I was using a bow from three feet away! The combat in Morrowind was CLEARLY broken!

That shouldn't be an issue if you're using weapons your class is Majored in and don't have 0 fatigue.

Even less so with the Warrior sign.

Lol it's not broken you just don't know how it works. Weapon skill, agility and fatigue determine your hit % chance. Fatigue affects it drastically. So with a 30 weapon skill you'll hit like one in 3 or 1 in 4 , but with no fatigue you'll hit like 1 in 10.

If you start with a weapon skill in major and just make sure you have full fatigue before a fight then you'll have no problems.

http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Combat read to understand how it works first before you say its broken, were you using a weapon you were skilled at? did you have armor on you were skilled in? fatigue or stamina is also a big roll in hitting, no fatigue? hit way less often, only lvl 5 in long blade? you have like less then a 10% to hit, even less then thta i think,
don't want to read? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhlzWANPvxE goes over the importent wiki info

That ... is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard! You CAN'T MISS from five feet unless you are dead tired, no matter how unskilled you are in real life! The spells failing and missing with a sword is understandable, but the horrible archery is unacceptable. And seeing as how I haven't played Morrowind in months, and it was early in the game, I can't answer your questions. At least Oblivion and Skyrim had believable archery in them, Morrowind was extremely unrealistic in that part.

Accurate attack is a good mod to "fix" the combat

stamina effects your chance to hit with a spell and weapons! morrowind uses the dnd dice rolls and % chances based on everything shown in that video, you MAY NOT BE SEEING IT but in dnd ( and morrowind) you would just imagine your enemies dodging or evading your attacks, and the more you fight, the more tired you got , if the enemies has more stamina or are more trained in combat, they can evade unskilled attacks, would it have helped if there was animations of the dice rolls happening yes, but the last 2 games before this were played with more imagination because graphics couldn't be very great back then, and even in 2002 , so i asumed they skiped the animations and just left it up to your brain to imagine the combat , for more "roleplaying" to happen

and to the comment on in real life

try and fight some skilled master in blackbelt or sword combat, see if you can hit them being unskilled, after staying awake for 24 hours while your opponent had a great night sleep and been practicing for about 3 hours before you got there

Yeah, sometimes rocks or other small object "eats" projectile of your ranged weapon. I noticed this when I was trying to shoot a mudcrab or a cliff racer. Earn some money by stealing expensive items and spend them on skill trainers. Before selling items, always quicksave and try to increase the merchant's disposition to 90-100%. Try to give them some coins. Search for custom rich merchants mods or for tweaked existing Creeper from Caldera (Gorak's manor). This game can be really odd for a modern gamers like us, as that guy said. But better look at the race's stats at uesp and start a new game with a race that fits your playstyle. Try to imagine what character do you want. Magic in this game is so amazing - it gives you so many possibilities but you will have to run a lot to a different sellers to find spell that you need. So read about spells in this game and where you can buy them at uesp. So if you want a mage or a mixed class (warrior-mage), Intelligence as a one of main attributes is essential because it defines your magicka count. A Breton is a good choice because they have 0.5x magicka bonus and a 50% resistance to magic. Second main attribute should be Endurance as it defines how much your health will be increased on level-up. The birthsign is Lover because of 25 Agility bonus (high agility means how hard you are to hit by the enemy) and a power Lover's kiss which will paralize the target on 60 secs by draining your stamina on 200 pts (but 50% mgc resist will reduce it to 100 pts). Now choose your specialty. If you want to be mainly a warrior, choose this option and put your weapon skills in secondary, because warrior specialty makes warrior skills to increase faster than other skills, especially when you fight an enemy hitting him with a weapon. I recommend to put in major skills only armor skill (decide which type you will use). If you want to use a crossbow (or bows) as a ranged weapon, put it in major skills, as well as magic skills you will use (so it would be 3 schools in a major skills because major skills are increasing faster than secondary skills). In secondary you should put Shields (if you want to use them), Security, Armorer, not so important magic skill and other, last one you want. Sneaking is useless because even with 74 sneak pickpocketing is hard as hell and you can backstab only one time per enemy and you need to be VERY lucky to do a successful backstab. You will increase your level by increasing your major and secondary skills. Remember to train your weapon skills to at least 45. And also, when you train, don't increase your skill 10 times, because on level-up you will got only 1 attribute increased depending what skill you were training. You can also find trainers you need on uesp. Join a Fighters and Mages guilds in Balmora to have access to supply chests with health and magicka potions. Get your first money by stealing expensive alchemy tools at Nalkaria's alchemy shop, they are in the two boxes standing close to each other. Just stand at the left wall and crouch so she wouldn't see you stealing. And then selling then to a modded Creeper in Caldera (dont sell Grandmaster tools, I believe they are the best tools). Another expensive set of alchemy tools you can find in Caldera's mages guild at the bottom level where is closed (not locked) door, on the top.
P.S. Fatigue affects every your action, as they already said. Morrowind is a dangerous place. Buy some potions to cure diseases, paralyze or poison as well as potions to restore attributes because if you met walking dead, this would be a very bad situation as they can cast a Damage attribute spell or you could catch a "Brown rot", a disease which decreases your attributes as well.

Are you using the Morrowind Code Patch? Without its fix, pickpocketing is virtually impossible. With it, it's still more difficult than in Skyrim, but pretty worthwhile at times.

For sneak attacks, I'll add: it depends on your target (are they high level or a good sneak?), how far away they are (sneak-shoot cliff racers, it's great), the weight of your boots, your agility (since that's Sneak's governing attribute), etc. Details here: http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Sneak

Might want to use a chameleon spell with sneak. 'The Lady's Ring' offers a good chameleon effect.

Now go rob some vaults! :happymeat::thumbs:

Protip: Take off your boots before you sneak.
