Footsteps?
2 Feet
2 fast
I barely have time to react when I barely start to hear them when their about to knife me.

Same to me, i can only hear enemies' footsteps when they are really really close, on the other hand my own footsteps are pretty loud.

Apparently you have to go into the game's files to make them louder. It is a shame that NWI won't fix it on their own because there are numerous threads on here stating the sound of footsteps is irrelevant to gameplay ATM.
Y u no listen 2 community NWI? I am disapoint.

I would not advise doing this. The footstep volume was intentionally lowered about 8 updates ago and works fine. Many servers admins along with some of the developers would consider changing those volumes to be a cheat and I know I am not the only server operator who added every reply in the other thread about it stating they had done that to their ban list.

I'm against editing the files. I'm just saying that it's the only way to fix the lack of footstep noise. I next to never hear footsteps besides my own so imo it doesn't work fine.

I object to that, especially since the game goes for authenticity. There is no reason you wouldn't hear someone with combat gear running towards you from a good distance away. If someone wants to sneak up on you, there is a walking and crouching stance that can make you move more silently. How could something like that even be considered cheating?

I think it's cheating to make the sounds higher on your own because you have now created an unlevel playing field for the people who feel it is wrong to edit a multiplayer game's files. NWI should just turn the footsteps up a little. I can blair my tv and still not hear anything.

I hear them just fine. I've gotten the drop on numerous people by stopping and listening for their footsteps. Any louder and you might as well have a GPS that shows where they are.

I'm legally deaf and I have no problems whatsoever hearing footsteps through my headphones. As I stated the footstep volume was intentionally reduced several updates back about the same time that crouching while in ADS was made silent and walk was an option that could be toggled. The footstep volume in game is fine and I hope anyone and everyone editing those files ends up both banned globally by NWI and receives a VAC ban.

Well, it is a flaw that was introduced by the game in the first place. If you hoist the realism flag for your game, I'd say that there is an obligation to try and not deviate from it too much.
Fixing the volume on your own would unlevel the playing field, true, but to me that is fixing an issue, not really cheating.

I don't sadly. As a matter of fact, last co-op match when I was playing support I was covering an entrance into a checkpoint area. I was alone in that room and there was no shooting. An Insurgent walked up behind me and shot me. I did not hear him at all. The volume of footsteps should make sense, but...it should make sense!

There is no issue to fix

I WANT TO BELIEVE
I'm not legally deaf and am in my prime age-wise and still haven't heard footsteps besides my own.

The numerous threads made by people disagree with this notion.

You said this happens to you in coop. Bots walk 99.99% of the time in coop so you wouldn't hear them anyway. Footsteps while walking were intentionally made silent.

That was an extreme example. I have seen bots sprinting and still wasn't able to hear them. As jv209 already stated: if there are plenty of people with the same issue, you can't just claim that there is none.
