FAQ: Read b4 Posting; Worth it? | Can I Run It? | Comparisons | More
Now that Insurgency has launched I keep seeing the same questions pop up, piling one on top of another so when the next prospective buyer comes he can't see what has been already answered and creates yet another thread. Here I aim to compile all this frequent questions for the sake of our collective mental hygiene:

Is the game worth it?

There's literally hundreds of comments in this sense, so why don't you head over here to see some gameplay? Best way to make a decision.

Will it have enough players? Will it die in a few months?...

In addition to a enthusiastic tight knit community from the Mod that supported it for more than 8 years, you can always check this link for the real time player count.

How this compares to...

The general opinion is for this game to be a mix between CS and RO2. I disagree.

This looks like CS but doesn't play like it or like Arma, for that matter. It's realistic without being excessively so and I'd argue it is more like a RO2/SWAT4 mix.

It has also been refferd as a "Minimalistic modern day DOD"

For the Project Reality fans, Insurgency is what PR would be in a CQC, competitive mode.

Can I run it?

Chances are that if you can run CSGO or any modern Source game (Portal2,L4D2) you'll be perfectly fine with Insurgency.

Devs have stated that they've upped the Minimal System Requirements after reports of lower spec systems having trouble running the game, so this Minimal Sys. Req. should be more than enough:

OS:Windows® 8/7/Vista/XP
Processor:Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6600 or AMD Phenom™ X3 8750 processor or better
Memory:4 GB RAM
Graphics:Video card must be 512 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for Pixel Shader 3.0
DirectX®:9.0c
Hard Drive:6 GB HD space

LINUX support?
Yes, there will be Linux support and it's on its way

Are there Servers on Australia?

Yes. After many askings by our pacific brothers, the Devs have made available servers on Australia. There are various official Servers on the US and EU aswell.

TeamKilling?

Yes, it is up to the Server administrators but the norm is for it to be enabled.

Achivement descriptions, guide?

Yeah

Game does not start, update

AntiViruses detect the .exe as a virus. AVG most of all. If you add the exception on the .exe it will fail to update and re-detect the .exe as a threat everytime the game is updated so add the exception to the Insurgency2 folder.

You know the drill: Steam/steamapps/common/insurgency2

Pricing

Price has been dropped after release, followed by an explanation from the Devs stating they feel is the best pricing for more players to buy it. Hard to argue with that.

Wasn't this a free Mod?

The Mod continues to be free and is very much alive. This is a Standalone rebuild of the Mod with the same concept and idiosincracy behind it, as well as the creators of the Mod.

WTF no HUD? How do I know if I killed somebody?

Insurgency aims to minimize the HUD. However, a kill ticker does exist and it is handled by each server. By default, this kill ticker is disabled and it is ultimately a choice left to the Server admins.

What about a Demo?

The Devs have stated that it's not on their minds at the moment being focused as they are in other matters. If it helps, you can go play the free Mod and watch some gameplays.

A free weekend in the future is being contemplated though.

Has the M4 been removed?
Devs have explained the M4 does not meet their quality standards, therefore, and as the MK18 literally serves the same purpose, they chose to make an exchange

Destructible enviroments? Bullet penetration?

There is bullet penetration based on the material you're shooting at and the bullets you're shooting it with.

There is no destructible enviroments however.

Stats/Ranking system?

Devs have stated several times that it's in the works. Hang tight pal.

Review copy?

Do you work for RPS? Chances are, no, you don't. Chances are, if you're going to ask for a review copy here in the good ol' Steam forums you don't deserve it. Get outta here, man/woman!

I'll add more as they pop up.

Great post, but i'd like to toss out that letters COD send many tactical gamers into a mind-halting frenzy of pure unadulterated hatred so if you're trying to place it as a positive you might want to pick another action-style game to compare to.

Thanks for taking the time to compile this btw!

Thanks.

No one remembers how great COD/COD2 were... sad, sad indeed. Changed

I remember, but not all gamers are our age. It's been a long time since COD2 was simply a wargame that happened to have great multiplayer.

I personally enjoyed playing the single player on some of the newer COD and some of the multiplayer and consider COD to essentially be the Madden of FPS. Stable enough, not very ambitious, if you liked the last one you'll probably like this one.

Or to put it another way COD is like a McDonald's burger, except gamers respond to it as though we all only eat filet mignon
