FPS is still lower than before but slightly better after hot fix
I still can't record without lag like I used to, recording direct to file with OBS would never drop my FPS pre hot fix and patch

I don't use optics ever

yes, this is my observation now , im in 90-120 range. yesterday y was in 60-80 so it did improve. but not to pre-patch levels.

Why did it drop in the first place? I remember playing it in beta with ultra and never dipping below 60 but now I even had to put a bunch of settings down and it's still not completely stable at 60 - going down to the low ~40 on some maps/places

particle effects were amped up, the smoke was given a make over among all other particles,

particles are a HUGE HUGE resource hog for the source engine, it was not designed from the ground up with them in mind,

it's crazy how the unreal engine and the Crysis engine run substantially better than this updated source engine, you'd think it'd be the other way

we need a mode that turns off all particles, this would dramatically improve FPS, when I modified the maps I removed all info_particles and particle systems and FPS increased greatly

As much as I love insurgency and am fine with it :) ...

I think it's growth is stifled by the limitations of the source engines

They cannot make a really huge map, unless it's really bland and flat .
They cannot integrate vehicles properly without sacrificing something somewhere else.
They have to limit/delete particle effects
they have to limit player counts to 16 vs 16 , and even that is pushing it.

so, with a better engine more fit for such things, they could add more shrubbery, buildings. a vehicle here and there, more detailed textures, bigger maps with lots of things going

plus particle effects like a torrential rain, or heavy snowfall to add to the immersion factor of Insurgency.

Heights used to have snowfall effect, was probably removed because it was too much of a hit on frames per second :(

I've seen ranges from 110 all the way down to 28 fps (looking through scope).

Or at least give ways of turning them off. Or hard limiting them. Id rather have bad graphics and 200 butter, than 80 and look cool. (but thats just me)

Yea my frames are still (bad) range :/ they are better but still not where they should be for maxed low settings :(

Since some particles like smoke, or even the dirt kick up in some things, like C4 may be important for gameplay, an option to remove particle effects that are unessential to gameplay (or restrict them to the barest minimum to leave gameplay unaffected) would be a nice option.

Im on x900 till I can get over 120 :(

I guess its my fault for going amd, but an 8350 should be able to get 120 :/

Hieghts is by far the worst frame drop wise though.

The new optics were rendering even when you didn't have optics. That was the only change we had that would affect frame rate. Not sure what these anecdotal claims of increased frame rates are, besides the optics system. We need hard data to verify the cause.

Is there anyway to help get this data? I don't have recordings before the changes, But on AMD Even at x900 I can't get over 100 sometimes. where as before the update I was fine. never dropped below 100.

the key factor is open areas. Indoors my frames Skyrocket to over 250-300, but I look out a doorway (heights example) and they just drop down to 80 even 50 :/

if it helps the game only uses about 50%avg core usage spikes to 70 once ina while but usually sits at 50-60 percent across 4 cores.

I had screenshots, before I reformatted today due to OC'ing issues, that showed that while looking into smoke and incendiary nades my FPS dropped to 20-30, while looking away I ramped back up to 100+ FPS

Also I have evidence, I deleted all the particle systems from your maps after I decompiled them and gained FPS, A LOT of people who scrimmed on my versions of VIP maps said they ran much smoother. Unfortuantely everyone that used to compete in this game is gone except the EU.

If you'd like the modified maps I have them on my media fire, you can see the difference in FPS

WOW.... My frames were 100% better. On Heights (from ins spawn) I would drop to below 60 looking to the left, your map Link? didn't drop at all.

My frames were butter with no dips or jumps. (now some of this could be server related) but wow this was nice. Im gunna post a comparison video if I can edit it correctly.
