Gunships are too unbalanced. They are too low and slow to avoid AA, and their massive fuel and weapons would allow them to loiter above the battlefield forever if you did manage to kill all the AA. You don't bring in a gunship into a fight if there's a chance it would get shot down, unless you like losing 500 points in one go. You bring a gunship to kill everybody on the ground without mercy. While in wartime a gunship would be effective, there's not much tactical splendour to just circling and strafing in the game.

Then why would you even put one in your deck, if you gimp it that much? Might as well bring in the Goodyear Blimp and give the pilots revolvers and bricks to throw at the ground.

well you could have bad ecm and say afuel time of the a10. Mind you they cant defend themselves from fighters and could have a high units price long rearm and movment speed.

gunships like the ac130 wouldnt be used in a battle like this. There are just too many threats as the plane is basically a cargo plane and cannot defend itself. It has only been used when we are facing an insurgancy like in afganistan where AA threats are very miniscule and in Vietnam during night raids. Video games overplay these gunships as there are only a few in existence.

I would love to see actual paradrops. Sure, for instance you get an Mi8 or Mi24 to carry your VDV troops, but they have to land and deploy them. No fast roping, no jumping out and parachuting, it really defeats the purpose of airborne soldiers if you can't deploy them anywhere on the battlefield.
sandrastarling 15 jun, 2013 @ 16:24
I do not see much use for boats other than bridging operations but since you can't blow the bridges then I would never choose it for a deck unless I just wanted to watch some bridging for the heck of it.
Landing craft again were really not a big part of this war since Nato's "Reforger" brought personnel over by air and their equipment was already on the ground. The rest of the theatre was pretty much already on the ground and prepared for a ground based war.

Gunships would also be difficult to add because these planes never operate over airspace where they could easily be shot down. These types of missions usually involve several aircraft providing air cover, radar jamming, and other close air assets to ensure the AC130 did not get picked off.

I have some more, though I'm not sure if these are all exactly cold war.

1. British Saxon apc
2. Czech OT-810 ( cool because its pretty much a WWII era German halftrack)
3. More LAV-25 variants
4. Ferret Mk 4
5. V-150 as apc

hha
the F-4 Phantom should play a larger role and not just be a napalm bomber with infared missles.
