Wargame: AirLand Battle
One thing wrong with this game...
First of all, I really love this game. There is one thing spoiling it for my brother and I however and it has really started bugging us.

So we are playing a multiplayer campaign. I have the entire 4th Marine Battalion land on the coast. Full morale and full initiative. We are kicking-ass and taking names. Then a lucky arty shot takes out my command vehicle and the whole division immediately surrenders.

I realise that there are ways around this situation. Don't only have one command vehicle etc, but it is so divorced from reality that it actually spoils the fun. My brother hates it too, seeing it as a cheap victory...especially considering that we were both having heaps of fun watching a battle. Then it suddenly ended because a single vehicle exploded.

We played the next mission, massive forces lined up to fight it out and, sure enough, my helicopters find his command vehicle, pop it and mission ends.

We want to play the game. It would be great to actually fight a battle for once rather than have it simply end on the basis of a highly abstract gaming mechanic.

I felt I just had to say something on the off-chance that it might, might instigate some change.

I like it I always keep some AA near my command vehicles and have more than one CV.
Generally speaking in the campaign you will want to have a couple of command vehicles so that you can get out enough units to actually beat the computer.
in multiplayer game just find command vehicles and take it is fast and boring,I think this winning system should be changed in multiplayer mode.
I see where you went wrong - you played the Campaign.

Now you've learned your lesson though, right? Eugen only cares about MP skirmishing, all other considerations (i.e. game modes) are throwaway, tacked-on affairs.

Fair enough...I really don't like it though...it has the potential to make potentially massive battles one minute affairs in which a single vehicle dies. Oh, and in my experience, no amount of AA can protect a command vehicle. They can blow up the plane after it as destroyed the target but seldom before. But I respect your opinion

I agree...but I am talking about the multiplayer campaign, not single player. But even in multiplayer I need more than one command vehicle in case a little recon vehicle just happens to get lucky.

That is...disappointing. The skirmishes are all highly repetative in my opinion while the campaign is extremely engaging. I hope you are wrong about Eugen only caring about skirmishes. That would suck.

I agree 100% It really does ruin the game sometimes.
Yea but at least its reallistic. An army without a commander is a dead army. I myself realized that the best way to counter this is to place a squad of recon infantry near your cv. it will spot other recons who actually see your cv. That way you can mve your cv when needed.

Hey there. Thanks for the reply. Have to disagree with you though. It is in no way realistic. An army without a commander does not simply die. If the CO dies, someone else along the chain of command takes over, all the way down to the most junior officers and NCOs. That is why the chain of command exists. The idea that the 101st Air would simply surrender because their CO's command car is hit by a missile is crazy.

Also, if you notice enemy recon with your recon and start to move your command vehicle, you also have to take out their recon or it will simply follow. Given the timings involved, it is almost impossible to save it once it has been detected, especially considering how quickly aircraft arrive on the battlefield after a deployment request.

Thanks for the advice though. I definitely will give it some thought.
