Looking for literature
Hello,
while playing this game i saw many experts on the era of the cold war and i would like to ask if you can suggest me any good literature on this topic. I´d like an overview, but im especially interested in Nixon, the vietnam war and the whole politic situation.
English books are fine, but german ones are even better!
Thanks in advance!

If you are interested specificially in the vietnam war i`d suggest the 10,000 day war by micheal maclear covers the entire thing from the OSS involvement during the Japanese invasion in `45 all the way through to the final American withdrawal and he interviewed everyone it seems from lowly grunts on the field upto senior policy makers. You might be able to find it in German.

If you can get ahold of it, "The Third World War" by General Sir John Hackett paints a grim picture of what WW3 of the 80s would look like. Interesting books. That's more about the war side of things though. Might want to check out Cold War: A military history as well. That deals with the politics a bit.

About a month ago I finished Command & Control: Nuclear Weapons, the Damascus Accident, and the Illusion of Safety, by Eric Schlosser. If you want a feel for the Cold War - what they (we) were thinking, this is the book for you. Its also absolutly one of the most terrifying books I've ever read - I am astonished that throughout the development of atomic weapons, not one (so far) has accedentally detonated. It wont inform you about ALB, and only touches on Vietnam, but its a must-read for understanding the Cold War.
