I-TOW/ TOW2 Infantry for US?
Just an idea I've been playing around with, the US doesn't have any proper infantry mounted ATGMs, and seeing as how the TOW in reality can be carried around and deployed perhaps there was a possiblity of making this a US-only unit (unless a heavy infantry ATGM unit was intentionally not put in for the US?) After all, we have three generations of TOW mounted in vehicles, and helicopters. Why not for the boots?

The foot-mounted ATGM for the US was originally the Dragon II, but it was taken out and replaced with Mountaineers (who, carry the Dragon II). I would assume that they didn't add the TOW as a foot mounted unit for balance since the TOW is one of the best ATGM's, but yes it is possible. Maybe not the TOW2/I-TOW again for balance, but the TOW can certainly be carried by infantry (no harder than a MILAN).

I think they removed it when they added the SMAW, so maybe that's the switch even though the SMAW isn't an ATGM (but it is one of the best non-guided AT in the game)

I think it would probally be for balance :P I mean... imagine a Bardley IFV with a TOW 2, dropping off a squad of infantry with a TOW 2 into a building 0_0

That right there is enough to make a Pact Tank s*** there pants :P
Will never happen. The whole thing weights over 140 kg.
Its the launcher, the engine seems to have a problem with anything that's setup would work like a towed gun.

Except it has, pictures of US troops in Afganistan and earlier on in Europe training exercises using foot-mounted TOW's. It's just not an infantry support weapon like the Dragon so it'd have its own team. Chances are a 5 man team. It was never manpacked and humped with (at least in a real-life setting. Airborne were in fact trained to have to hump a TOW 10-20 kilometers. No one loved doing it, but it was possible), but they trained to dismount it and use it not too far from the support vehicle so it could theoritcally be used in a mechanized purpose.

But Mr.Caesar here has a good point, the launcher is rather weird. Then again, the Dragon has a similar set-up process but this one would have a longer aiming time to compensate maybe? Eh, I think it all comes down to balance. As Spitfire said, imagine a Bradley with a TOW dropping off a unit with more TOW, it'd be expensive but just too good.

I do not remember where hearing this but isn't the Wargame engine a modified RUSE engine thats really modified? If so then would they be able to un modify the part that makes towed units impossible since it was doable in RUSE I mean even if they had to do it like in RUSE the unit stopped and the truck went away I would be fine with that.

Anyways on the TOW thing I have never heard or seen anything on a TOW being able to be carried by infantry guess you learn something new everyday.

It might just be my rationalization for why the game has no towed guns

The whole TOW-carried thing is doable. It's no more difficult than humping a Konkurs.

keep in mind this is the 90s, pre 9/11 man, we werent as bloated then as now, though still pretty bloated. The standard issue was the dragoon, tows were only used on vehicle mount or in well prepared static deffences,

It's too big to be considered truly manportable in red dragon. The konkurs and it's launcher is also considerably smaller and lighter than the TOW.

Devs have stated several times that the TOW is not gonna be added in.
