Wargame: AirLand Battle
Be advised: The online community is worse than Starcraft or COD.
Been playing this game for a while now. Not very good at it compared to normal players. With that said...

I have been playing pc games for a long time now, and I have yet to see an online community that is as hostile to new gamers ("noobs") as this. I'm not just talking about general chat either. Nearly every game is filled with people who I swear do not do anything but play this game with the same army and same maps over and over, just waiting to insult and brag about how leet they are. Of course this doesn't apply to everyone, but the jerks and trolls are the loudest by far.

I really want to love this game, and I do enjoy playing it, even though I lose almost every game. I haven't been playing it for long and I still don't know all the units that are OP like so many others, but the playerbase just sucks.

Regardless, I know how this goes. Hardcore gamers scare away 90% of new gamers, and they don't care. The trolls just troll until they lose their audience and then move on to something else, and the developers have aready made their money so why should they care?

So I hope this post serves as a warning for anyone thinking of purchasing this game. I'm not going to say don't buy it or anything like that, but I wish I had known just how bad it was before purchasing. It's made me seriously reconsider purchasing Red Dragon.

It saddens me to say this is true. I have been a rts fan for sometime and even though by far this has become my favorite one personally I can also say I have never seen a game that needs a block and ignore option more. I've read plenty of the guides which always refer to the green button to switch that screen off but once again that is you having to succumb to the MASSIVE trolls by switching that screen off which effectively shuts you off from everyone else considering it's you only chat viewing screen so if you want to talk or even notice a friend talking to yo through a personal message you wont see it because you had to turn the chatbox off just to get away from some of the nastiest gamers I have ran into. I have met a few friends but this games developers need to seriously consider a solution to that because they have a game that has the ability to be endlessly supported by rts lovers but are having their potential literally capped by a army of trolls. Being able to block and ignore would help the company and the players out, especially the players in the sense of not having to feel like they HAVE to deal with the constant insults and overboard vulgarity. At one point I was having a convo with a friend and never saw his replies because people were trolling so hard it pushed everyone of them out.

Most of the "hardcore" gamers dont play in public as they know that they may have too face cheese in public games

But yeah their are some angry people that play though :(

Just mute/block them...

Oh wait..
Not every player is hostile or anti-n00b. Part of the problem is that the devs decided to not display the 'experience level' in ALB as was displayed in the WEE game lobbies, so you don't know what type of game you're getting into. In WEE, most of the experienced people would join others with the same exp level and same for n00bs. If n00bs wanted to join players with a higher level than themselves, at least they were forewarned and that they should at least follow instructions, not quit at the first sign of distress and try to learn something from the experience.
I've been around the game for 2 years now, and I'm getting tired of the elitist players and spam artists and clown games as well as the usual small cadre of just plain troublemakers.
This chat really sucks hard, Everytime I go on to have some war talk(Game talk), there is always the same players on there trying to start an arguement with me, About rotton teeth in the UK or some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ topic that has nothing to do with the game, The Devs needs to do themselves a favour and take the chat off. The pre-puberty after school crowd will leave...I mean whop else comes on here and bragfs he is an elite sniper with 300 comfirmed kills...big joke for sure, but the kind of takl that makes me run for the hills.
I beg to differ with your title. Playing Dota quite regulary, it's a pleasure to come back to Wargame (despite the Global Chat which is nothing in comparison lol)
Probably the devs worse decision in Wargame is to allow quick nickname changes. In Red Dragon you will be able to block and mute players.

I've railed against that alias name thing in the game since...forever, and the devs haven't yet offered a compelling reason to have it.
Well Shifu, I never had any problems with it, until this morning. I actually did some silly things in a ragnarok 10v10 (spawning units in a zone with lots of enemy units) and another player found it necessary to point out that I would be retarded, that I lost units, that everyone was leaving because of me etc.

In fact, 3 of the 10 players had left at that time, one because he was also called a noob by said insulting player.

I can't imagine what it would be like if I actually was a noob and was trying to learn the game and playing my first multiplayer round. What better way than 10v10 multiplayer where anything goes?

I see wargame as something to have fun with, to experiment with decks and try new tactics. And that means losing sometimes of course, but that's a much more fun way to learn and play the game than to win everything. Losing to unexpected tactics, that's fun, getting points because the other person makes a mistake, also fun. Playing every game with the same tried & true decks and strategy, that's just boring.

Please put people who find it absolutely necessary to win each and every match in a different lobby so we can have our fun :-)
Shifu happens to be a moderator in the official forums, probably a bit of a biased opinion he may have. But then, many of the moderators in there have some pretty biased opinions, IMO.

Or a block/mute function. I have no idea why people would have to report to them, rather then decide for themselves who i can and cannot be abused or speak to.

I asked on their twitter, post deleted, i asked on their facebook, post deleted, i asked on their forum, thread locked. It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insidious, and very european of them. Quick! He's asking something that makes us uncomfortable! Shut it down! Cowards.

I'm still pretty noob-ish at this, but for once i don't mind because i find this game so fun, especially when me and two or 3 mates are on the same team. I've had a couple of run in's with some supposedly "leet" people, but when they got all pissy i told them to STFU and ♥♥♥♥ off, and that shut the bastards up :D

Just don't take it, and if they persist, you can always friendly fire... (no, i'm kidding, don't do that unless they REALLY piss you off).
i dont agree with this statlement:
yes trolls are trolling, but its not representing the community at all, they are just a silly minority that make lot of noise (and spam a lot public chat).

I find that the public chat is by far the most god awful, terrible, collection of potty mouthed- idiots i have ever seen...

However once I get into an actual game everyone I have met seems pretty nice (with the exception of 2 games i've played. One was an argument about plane spamming (both sides were doing it :P ) and another because i went to the wrong sector (even though i flared the one i was going to, and was told by my teammate to go left :P )

When i first started, and was just making incredibly stupid decks, like Air spam decks, recon-only decks, decks with only 5 units, and the hated support deck :P

I went to the chat and asked a question about how good the Bradley IFV's were, I had one player who PM'ed me, brought me into a private game lobby to chat in, and pretty much built me an entire deck by relaying instructions through the chat, about what units to pick, how to use those units in a game, and what they were supposed to be used for. I still have that deck, and it really helped me win my first few games, and build my own decks using that players advice.

Spitfire. Yep, when one is friendly, nice things can happen. Don't let the jerks and thugs grind you down. Once you get some friends to play with the game takes on a whole new vision, especially if you have some friends with voice chat.
