New to the series: AB or RD
Hi.

I'm considering buying this game, it feels like something I would enjoy. But I'm wondering, which one should I buy? I'm not interested in single-player content, mostly I'd play online with my friends. Is RD the superioir one or is most of the player base playing AB? Also, are there any benefits for owning both. As in, are there units in RD that are unlocked by owning AB?

There are plenty of games where the older one is actually better, so I thought I'd make sure. Thanks.

RD all the way. Better Deck Builder and you can assign decks to the AI.

NO WAY! Ornstein, you do not even own Red Dragon. So how can you compare the two?
TRUST ME, Red Dragon has bigger maps and more units, plus deck creation is easier and you can assign the AI the decks you create.
PLUS, in RD you can slow down and pause time.
Sorry Ornstean, you do not know what you are talking about when it comes to Red Dragon.

Red Dragon I'd have to say. Along with the fact that there is naval, land, and air combat; Red Dragon has more diverse maps with jungles and hills, compared to Airlands which were mostly just simple flat maps. Don't get me wrong, I though Airland Battle was fun until I saw what Red Dragon brang to the table. There's also random decks so you don't have to spend all the time in the world making a deck that suits you, you can just set it to random and go, which I like because I want to get into the game right away. There's also the new East Asian factions like Korea, China, and Japan, along with all previous factions. Go for Red Dragon it's definitley the better of the two and more improved.

I'm sorry, but that statement is completely false. Red Dragon has A LOT more content then Airland Battle.

Does red drag-queen have a proper campaign? Like something out of a total war game?

Strategic wise there are not a lot of games that pull off water units. They ussually end becoming match deciders or important pole points in the game. Red Dragon is similar to that. There are not many reviews from critics or friends in Red Dragon that praise the game for it. Though the smaller boat units are welcome and intergratable in most maps, it's an odd idea to have a big clunky 100km range ship on a 50km map with only 10% water, while having a limited number of counters to the destructive force it brings.

That said feature wise and technically the game is better than airland and you can choose to avoid ship maps. Some still prefer the older engine over the new, but the community in Red Dragon is alive and kicking while Airland has about 300 active players. So the PVP is quicker to set up and you'll have a better chance than fighting.

None. Go buy Ruse if you want a true and steady tactical RTS instead of this junk.

lol its got all the free dlc available already, RD has zero dlc released yet (which is all free if you purshase the game)

units also function differently in Air compared to RD, not to mention the terrain advancements and how elevation and position are more important in RD

Sadly I would have to reccomend Red Dragon for the multiplayer experience. The community for AL has kinda died out, and I have been sat waiting for half an hour just to find a game with people in.
