I have the same problem, first I thought it was the fglrx driver, so I manually updated from AMD's website.

-Computer-
Processor : 4x Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU 540 @ 3.07GHz
Memory : 3910MB (1780MB used)
Operating System : Ubuntu 12.10

Date/Time : Wed 23 Jan 2013 12:29:56 PM CET
-Display-
Resolution : 1680x1050 pixels
OpenGL Renderer : AMD Radeon HD 6670
X11 Vendor : The X.Org Foundation
-Multimedia-
Audio Adapter : CMI8738-MC8 - C-Media CMI8768
Audio Adapter : HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
Audio Adapter : HDA-Intel - HD-Audio Generic

Any ideas what might be the cause of this problem?

I actually managed to get it running by myself :) However, I only figured out what's wrong when running the game called Waveform. And since that game was writing a lot of stuff into console, I could look for some errors.

So after running it from console I found this message:
./x86/waveform.x86: error while loading shared libraries: libGLU.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

For some reason it did not load the library even when I had it installed in my Ubuntu. Just that it was in different directory than the game expected it.
So after running this command from directory /usr/lib:
sudo ln -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGLU.so.1 libGLU.so.1

So as this fixed the game Waveform, afterwards I tried running this game (Puddle) as well. And it did run :) I even did few levels :)
Hope it helps someone if they have similar problems.
