The Stanley Parable is an eccentric adventure story. It's witty, entertaining, and a phenomenal game. I hadn't heard of the original mod before this port, but once I found out about it, I purchased the game and thoroughly enjoyed it. This game, however, is a bit difficult to explain. On paper, it sounds awfully stupid. But the execution is so brilliantly spot-on that I can't help but enjoy it. The achievements are a bit irksome (such as "Don't play The Stanley Parable for five years", "Play The Stanley Parable for the entire duration of a Tuesday", "This achievement is impossible to obtain") which typically means I can't recommend the game, but The Stanley Parable is the exception to the rule. I figure if I want to keep playing the game after I've beaten it /and/ gotten all the achievements, there has to be something good in there.
In short, I can't really explain to you why this game is great. It's just so... normal. It's an expereince in normalcy. I'd recommend trying the demo if you're not sure. Otherwise, pick it up and enjoy the long hours of entertainment.
