I have the same problem, Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit, Intel HD4000.
I have exactly the same problem crash in the ending scene where Nate chase Critter on ice and then the screen goes black and game crashes. I also don't have the Steam achievement for fifth chapter on normal mode.

Same problem. Crash at the ending scene and no achievement for the last chapter.

same problem here, stops running and goes back to steam, no achivement for 5 chapter. This is in hard settings. And Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit
Yeah, I think we can stop posting, this game seems dead...
from desember and dead already. But good game indeed.
Here's a solution to the issue that works for me:

1. Make a backup of "~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/The Critter Chronicles/kagedata/lang/data/locations/endcredits/credits_text.tga" file.
2. Open the "~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/The Critter Chronicles/kagedata/lang/data/locations/endcredits/credits_text.tga" with GIMP.
3. From menu choose "Image" -> "Canvas size...".
4. Change the height to 8192 pixels (or to the maximum texture height supported by your graphics card).
5. Change the Y offset to -780 pixels (if you changed the height to 8192 and you want to see the full credits).
6. In "Resize layers" select "All layers".
7. Click "Resize".
8. Export the image to the file you opened it from.


If 8192 pixels is still too much or the above solution doesn't work for you, you can replace the "credits_text.tga" file with any other .tga file from the game or with your own created TGA image.

Had exactly the same problem. Debian Wheezy, 32 bit iCore 2 Duo, nVidia Quadro FX 370M, both nVidia blob and nouveau driver. Solution by orb helped me though. Thanks!
I had the same problem on my Laptop (Dell Latitude D620) with Intel 945GM only supporting textures with a size of 2048x2048 pixels... reducing the size of credits_text.tga helped...
