Demo does not start on openSUSE 12.2 64-bit (KDE)
After installation and trying to start the game, nothing happened at all.

I modified bout.sh to remove the references to Ubuntu commands after reading a comment by Olorin at http://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/0/846939071353572481/

Then I got errors about missing files, and installed the packages libXaw7-32bit and Mesa-libGLU1-32bit.

After that the screen blinks very quickly, and I'm back at the desktop.

Any ideas?

I can say that it definitely works OK on openSUSE 12.2 64 bit

I had to modify boutvc.sh and remove the Ubuntu app installation crap (seriously? using the start script to try and install things, that's just stupid)

I also had to disable the In-Game Steam Community.

With those two changes, the game launches fine from within Steam.

One thing I did find was that that if you launch the game from CLI outside of Steam, you won't have persistent savegames (they are lost once you exit the game).

Thanks! I found the setting in Steam to disable In-Game Steam Community, and then the game launched.

It does crash if I try to enter the settings in the game though, but it seems like many has that issue, even in Ubuntu.

@Morpa, did you try disable In-Game Steam? Your issue very similar which I mentioned on: http://steamcommunity.com/app/221830/discussions/0/828924672590258629/#c828925849184797819

Disabling the in game Community worked to launch it for me (latest Kubuntu) but yeah, the Settings and Save/Load options still cause it to crash.

I wonder what the difference is here? I'm on openSUSE 12.2 64 bit. I ripped out the Ubuntu specific apt-get crap from the start script, disabled the in-game community and it works 100%. I can go into settings and change anything, save games, load games, sync with the Steam Cloud etc. In other words the game works 100% (minus the de-Ubuntu-ing of the start script)

Could it be related to graphics hardware? I have a ATI Radeon HD 5670.
What do you have smaug42?
smaug42 30 grudnia 2012 o 15:55
I have nvidia. I've had ATI and it's nothing but trouble.
