We're looking to remove the 30 FPS cap in a future update!
I made this thread yesterday but removed it because I felt the Double Fine folks wouldn't care much. Someone tried to post in it right as I deleted it and thought that the double fine guys deleted, no it was actually me, but since you brought it up again, I will repost it. There is a TL;DR at the bottom for people that don't want to read it all.

So here's the story, Double Fine promised the same thing on all of their game releases, "We're looking to remove the 30 FPS cap in a future update". This happened with Stacking, this happened with Costume Quest and recently happened with Iron Brigade as well. They never did remove the fps cap but they always promised it will happen in a future update, for all of the previous titles. Now keep in mind, the previous titles are years old, this feature was NEVER implemented and we were just left in the dust.

Present day, The Cave was released, with the same annoying 30 fps cap. What do we get now ? The same statement that was made on all previous titles, from the same person actually (which is quite ironic) "DFNathan". (screenshot : http://gyazo.com/5fd7ef6cfc8d8a709976e7b803cc14a6 )

I'm sorry that I have to make this topic guys, I really am, but this has got to stop. You either update the engine once and forever or you don't. Please stop making this false promises to your playerbase, I know your main audience is the console people, and they don't care much for it, but for pc gamers 30 fps is a deal breaker.

And please don't say that it's barely noticeable, and that it's playable, and all of those people that ask for 60 fps are just cry babies, stop with all of the excuses. If you ever played at 60 fps, even above, you will know that the difference is as night and day, quite immense. I know this is not a first person shooter, or that it's not fast, or intense, but the 30 fps hurt it the same way, it feels stiff, animations feel wrong, the entire movement is wonky because of this framerate cap. But I know that these people that never played a game above 30 fps in their life do exist, so I'm just going to leave this here : http://www.100fps.com/how_many_frames_can_humans_see.htm

Thanks for reading my lengthy post, but I had to get this off my chest because it is somewhat frustrating!

TL;DR - Double fine has promised they will remove the fps cap for a few years now. They promised with Stacking, they promised with Costume Quest, they promised with Iron Brigade and now they promised with The Cave. It never happened, and probably never will! My request of Double Fine is to stop the promises, it's either you do it or you don't, but stop making false promises to your playerbase.

Thanks, fixed the link. There is no noticeable change because the 30 fps is hardcoded into the engine, the fps counter is lying to you. This was explained by a Double Fine developer in a thread in this forum

i know you just get double frames. but most people want to see that counter to be on 60

This thread doesn't need to exist, there are already multiple threads on this topic.

Also the topic title is misleading.

But you see, this thread does need to exist. Because in it I explain how Double Fine is promising the same thing for a few years now but never delivering. It's all false promises, always saying we will update this "in a future update" but never doing it. I call them out to the table, let's see if they respond or not

And they did promise the same thing on The Cave a few days ago, so I feel this is higly relevant, so people know that this will probably never happen. (as in the framerate cap will probably never get removed). It does appear you haven't even read what I wrote though..

Look up the definition of "promise". "We're looking to" is not the same as promising something. If they'd said something along the lines of "we WILL be changing this in a future update", then fine, but as far as I know they haven't.

What DPB said. Also, everything you mentioned is discussed in the other threads.

So you are telling me that "We're looking to remove the fps cap in a future update" line is not a promise ? Why are they saying that on all of their releases then ? They are saying "a future update" for a couple of years now, you want to say that they've been "looking into it" for so long and couldn't fix it ?

Are they still looking into it ? How many more years until the "future update" comes ? Just a couple of the questions I wish Double Fine would answer with a concrete response

Sorry but I can't defend lazy developers like you, I will push on until a concrete response is given by Double Fine, sorry but there is no argument to be won with me, so don't waste your time

They didn't say it /would/ happen, they said it would be investigated. Those are distinctly different.
Mars Mountain 30 Ιαν, 2013 @ 10:32πμ
This is a problem caused by the fact that the engine, Brütal Engine, was created for a console-only game, Brütal Legend. It's also a particularly nasty problem, as the engine has been hardcoded to run at 30 FPS. That's why finding the fix is so hard.

Double Fine do not have boat loads of cash, therefore they can't afford to pay people to work all day-every day to try to fix this problem.

Once a fix is found, it will be applied to all four games that utilize the Brütal Engine (Costume Quest, Stacking, Iron Brigade, The Cave).

If it's not going to happen, at least I want to hear it from a developer. They have been promising it for years now, I would like to know a definitive response once and for all..

that wont happen either. they didnt promise they would fix it.. the reason they said they are "looking" to remove the cap is basically a lie to keep sales going

Yeah I know, that's why I am calling them out on it. They've been saying this lie for way too long in my opinion
