Well they are saying that you can import the original songs and dlc purchased but now I heard that they have licensing problems with some of the songs. Hopefully they can sort out the legal aspects but I think most of the songs will be imported.

These stupid licensing problems always come to ruin fun. Every now and then someone has to become greedy. The same thing happens with Hitman Contracts. Not on Steam because of one song that appears briefly when you enter a bar. But this is not the developers' fault and not the artists' either. It is the fault of the management behind the artist and the record companie's.

I'll be real happy if you can import at least most of the songs from the first game. DLC should be a given..

I believe they said that 7 of 2011's on disc songs were having licensing difficulties (one of them wanted $4m to be in 2014. I wonder who that was, haha), but the DLC should all be import-able if I understand correctly.

Greedy music industry do my head in they want money from every one for doing nothing! They take from the artists and the people and it is so wrong on so many levels. See after you have paid the electrician for fitting your lights and light switches do you pay him again each time you use the switch? When you bought that picture from a local artist did he tell you that you need to pay every time you look at it or moved it to a different wall? No, so whats the difference?

If your going to make money from the artists work you should have there permission and pay them a percentage of the profits sure, that is only fair. But if you have already paid them once for selling on the song to a Rocksmith user there is no new profit generated by the user moving the songs from one version of Rocksmith to another. Unless Rocksmith charge you to import songs from one version to another like Rock band did, then there should be a percentage paid to the artist but not some greedy suit skulking in the background.

If i play Rocksmith 2014 on a mac, will my dlc and original content from Rocksmith 2102 be available on the mac (same steam account with both versions ?)
TheFroggynator Oct 7, 2013 @ 9:14am
I am most definately sure that Rocksmith is not backwards compatible. Please go back to the future and I am sure that any Rocksmith from 2103 onwards will support previous songbases, for example, from 2102.

Joking aside, I see no reason why it wouldn't. Steam games are buy once, play on all supported platforms. I cannot see the Steamworks tags cause I'm at work and there are some ports blocked that stops Steam displaying 100% of its elements, but as I remember, both titles are, so I believe the answer to you question is positive.

Will I be able to use DLC from the original Rocksmith with Rocksmith 2014 Edition?

Yes, you will. Your previous DLC purchases will be transferable without any sort of re-payment, as long as you’re moving them on the same platform (i.e., trying to move your original Rocksmith DLC you got on your Xbox 360 console to a copy of Rocksmith 2014 Edition on PlayStation®3 system will not work). This means that Rocksmith 2014 Edition will see new DLC releases in addition to the vast library already established with the original Rocksmith.

What about the on-disc songs from the original Rocksmith? Can I play those?

Rocksmith 2014 Edition will be backwards compatible! This means you’ll be able to play the on-disc songs from the original Rocksmith, so keep your copy around.

and they haven't updated that FAQ. there were some license issues on some of the songs so it won't be the entire collection of on-disk songs from the original Rocksmith.

also, no word yet on if custom songs will work.

I was joking in my comment due to the typo in the year. But I should've used "forwards compatible" indeed. :)

Well, his question was if he can play song from 2012 (which I assume from his wording he played on Windows) in 2014 edition on Mac.

I checked and I saw that only Rocksmith 2014 has the SteamPlay tag and Rocksmith was/is available only on Windows.

I would assume that this won't be a problem though, cause it would be unfair for Mac users, but I am not 100% sure. I think you (Treps) should put this question on their official forum.

It's because of things like this that there will always be piracy, no matter how easy things like Steam make it to legitmately purchase goods and services, some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ will stop the release of a game/etc. because of licensing/royalties/$. Piracy doesn't have these issues, nor DRM and all the other ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that we legitimate users have to put up with. I wish they would just resolve the licensing and allow the distribution of it, so that honest people can enjoy the game/etc. as well.

I'm so out of the loop on mainstream over the years that I can't recognize about 80% of the band names coming out for 2014 edition. I also didn't care for most of the songs in the 2011 game. It's always the worst music that gets the strictest licensing terms.
