Super Hexagon
How to get custom music in Super Hexagon
1) Got to Steam\steamapps\common\Super Hexagon\data\music
2) Backup this folder somewhere on your compie so you don't lose the files
3) Take whatever song you want to replace and paste it into this folder
4) Simply rename the song to musicX.dat*
5) Launch Super Hexagon
6) Enjoy

What the .dat files are
music0 : menu music which is currently just 2 seconds of silence
music1 : Hexagon
music2 : Hexagoner
music3 : Hexagonest
music4 : After 60 seconds of Hyper Hexagonest
music5 : Ending Animation Music

*X is what ever specified song you want to replace

I am a stegosaurus!
Thank you for this information.
Yay great!
are you supposed to have the *? Because 1 It says the file name cant have that character in it and 2 The file without the * doesnt work.

you must not put * in the file name
Thanks! :)
what file format does the music have to be? surely the game isn't smart enough to recognise any format.

.mp3 works for me. You can do it the other way around aswell, just change the music*.dat to music*.mp3 to get the ingame songs :)
Why would you want custom music in this? The original soundtrack kicks ass.
This does not work for me at all. I've renamed it to music1.dat and music1.mp3. None work, does anyone know why?
...but the soundtrack is amazing. :steamsad:

The file format needs to be ".ogg" for the audio to work (assuming you have the proper codecs installed). After that you can use a program like Audacity to convert it to whatever format you might want.

EDIT: I just checked, you can convert other formats to .ogg files and rename them as needed to drop them in the games music folder. Also, I am not sure if file size matters as I made a file that was 17 mb and it played in-game without issue.

super late comment (ha): if you're finding that the music isn't being played back at the right speed, ensure that the file you're saving is sampled at 44100hz, because that's what's the game's audio engine is playing back on!

for those feeling xkcd 979: here it is, you're welcome 😓
