Time window for steam to be allowed to download updates
Hi, I've been thinking a really cool idea is to be able to tell steam to only be able to download updates, say, 1am-8am (when no one is using the connection basically) - as I'm finding more and more as my library gets larger (thanks steam sales), that more and more games are updating frequently, which can often mean ping spikes when your playing games not thru Steam (damn Origin and BF3 being Origin only), or you know, trying to stream 1080p on youtube, etc.

Cheers

1am-8am is only late night in *your* timezome - for others it's prime time.

I'm more pointing out a selectable time (with an example) rather than specifically 1am-8am.

What they really need is the option to alert you that there are updates available, but not download them until you tell it to. Like how OS updates work.

Especially since Steam is such a bandwidth hog and it never seems to abide by the bandwidth limiter settings.

If you're referring to the fact that it frequently reports speeds above the limit you set in the active downloads screen and system tray mouseover, that's because it does a terrible job of reporting its own download speed. If you open Windows' Resource Monitor and look at the actual download speed of the program, I think you'll find that it remains steady at the limit you set instead of constantly jumping up and down like Steam claims. That's a whole different can of worms that I don't want to get into here.

Wish I had taken a screenshot the other day, but Steam reported my "Peak Download Rate" as 3, 821, 780, 251 GB/S
