No hard-coded integration! If Steam would detect Unity, and then load a separate integration module, it's okay.

+1
and messaging menu support in steam chat too

I'm all for this as long as it is all optional and does not hinder cross-distro support in any way.

+1 for that, hard coded integration is just a bloat, what about another distros?

I would like AppMenu integration... I like to have my desktop very minimalistic and earn the most space posible to the main window area :-) This would maybe have problems with the upper right "messages" icon (it's on the menu bar), but there's a lot of space under it so it would be feasable (maybe integration with the messages notifier?).

AppMenu works on 32-bit systems AFAIK... But for me, it doesn't (I'm running amd64 version of Xubuntu)

+1 agreed. I'm a 100% Unity user, but I don't want to screw over the other users for my own benefit.

I disagree. Support Ubuntu-specific settings AND Mint-specific AND Fedora-specific AND etc etc.

I tell you something: Long time ago there was a operating system used by very few people @ home.
Nobody else was interessted in this OS, there was as good as no commercial consumer software. This OS was Open Source, everybody was free to *CONTRIBUTE*.
Nobody even thought about begging companies for features of *THEIR OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE* like Unity.
Sadly with rising attention to this OS, users' mind slightly started to change. People started to *WAIT FOR* features instead of thinking about implementing it themselfs....
Its the attitude of properitary software - its the windows attitude.

In short: Dont ask for integration in OpenSource Software. Ask for a Steam CLI to make it scriptable being able to embedd in whatever you want, call it Unity, KDE or whatever!
