Case insensitive (for addons)
In gmod and probably other games the addons are developed on windows which is case insensitive. When you try to use those addons in linux, they will work but you have to either have a case insensitive file system or go though and change all the letters to lower case.

There should be a way to make games not care about case instead of having to resort to something like formatting with jfs.

Addons are supposed to be in vpk files and as far as I know the vpk parser in the engine takes care of this. Is it a real issue or just 2 legacy mods not working?

For gmod, you can copy paste addons. You don’t have to use the steam work shop. I try to not use it whenever I can because if steam servers go off line your addons get unmounted. Kind of like when your items in tf2 go away. Really dumb considering the addons are on your hard drive.
These are not legacy mods. Garry has dorked up the addon system like 85 times in the past year or 2 so addons have had to be fixed a lot. You can get svn or just download zip files from github for pretty much any addon in gmod.

What I do right now is I mount a jfs -O image to the addon folder. Kind of clunky, not so easy for most people, but it works.

I'm thinking making manifest filename specification case-insensitive, unless otherwise specified, might be a good idea.

Since case-sensitivity varies from platform to platform, having a fixed way of handling case would provide an advantage, including search order on case-sensitive platforms.
