Different Wallet Pricing
hello so i was thinking that maybe you could change the payments for the steam wallet

instead of being £4 , £10 , £25 , £50 , £100

i was thinking maybe you could space it out more evenly in 5s or so so its more like

£5 , £10 , £15 , £20 , £25 , £30 , £50 , £75 , £100

this isnt a major issue but it would be more helpful when adding money to accounts

Thanks for reading :)

It's intentional. Valve is a company and it wants to help itself, not you. In the current system if you want to buy a £15 game, you have to put at least £20. This guarantees that the £5 that remains will be spent though Steam as well.

You either spend it immediately by purchasing something else too, or you will park your money at Valve HQ and it will earn interest for Valve, not for you.

As a good practice, don't ever use Steam Wallet. It's a trick to sell you games for even more money without you easily noticing. It's unfair and dishonest to say the least.

Or you could add £4 to your account 4 times and buy the £15 game with only £1 left.

Then you pay more transaction cost to your bank, more tax to the government and still pay more than you should have to...

Obviously you'd have to be stupid to put money into Steam Wallet just to buy a specific game that same hour. The purpose is to simplify the transaction process so you don't have to go punching in your credit card number or logging into PayPal every single time you want to buy something, particularly in-game items. Just click, click again to confirm, boom. You're adding money based on how much you anticipate you'll be spending in the future; you can't predict down to the penny or even five pound increments exactly how much you'll want to spend during the next few months, especially with stuff always going on sale. In that respect, only being able to make a ballpark guess isn't unreasonable at all.

Now, not being able to buy in-game items without Steam Wallet money at all, that is a lot of bull and they should fix it. I'm not saying I think there's anyone obsessed enough with Team Fortress 2 to buy a hat for it with real money but not planning to ever buy a game through Steam again in their lives, but if someone's already in the habit of using PayPal or a credit card for every purchase, it's stupid to not accommodate that.
