Trouble with steam On Ubuntu 13.10 NEED HELP
I am have troubles starting steam when I start it and log in I get the No direct rendering openGL error and then right when the steam window pops up and then The desktop crashes and I'm back at the login screen I checked and it says My graphics card supports direct rendering but I am at a lost if anybody could help me that would be amazing thank you

Are you using some custom repo for graphics drivers? I had that error after trying the xorg edgers ppa, not using an Intel GPU though...

Do you know what model GPU you are using? Are you using the proprietary GPU drivers?
Also,could you tell us the output of these commands:

uname -r
lspci -v

You can use pastebin.com if the output is too large to post.

Now that I think about it I updated my Mesa using this page

And I think when I updated my driver This problem started happening

And I think when I updated my driver This problem started happening
Use #5 (Reverting to original drivers) from that page and you should be OK. You may need to install ppa-purge before doing it, use "sudo apt-get install ppa-purge" to do that.
