Open Source > Proprietary now?
I just unistalled Catalyst 13.4 (using aticonfig --uninstall) and L4D2 beta works better than ever!? WTF!? Did my drivers not fully uninstall? fglrxinfo returns nothing and Ubuntu shows Xorg wrapper is loaded.

AMD produce two drivers: fglrx[support.amd.com] (proprietary) and radeon[x.org] (open source). On different kind of hardware and on different kind of tasks one driver better than another. For example for CrossFire fglrx is better than radeon, just because radeon driver doesn't support this feature.

Also you may be interested in some performance improvements that may be achieved with radeon driver.

AMD does not produce the radeon driver. They just help the community developing it.
For example what level of community participation in radeonsi driver? (Radeon HD 7750+)
I cannot confirm that with my 4250 IGP with fglrx source games are quite playable, tired even kernel 3.8 and that xedgers packages but with open source drivers most source games have missing textures, bad performance(10 FPS with lowest settings) and crash evry 5 minutes.

Did you remember to add the S3TC via libtxc_dxtn.so ?

<might be the problem, how could I check on that library?
If you are running Ubuntu or a derivative of it like Mint you'll have to add a a ppa that has it and install it. Most distros only include the S2TC package for legal reasons, S2TC however isn't a full implementation as the full S3TC that has been used by pretty much every game made in the last decade.

A good PPA for this is the xorg-edgers ppa, which also has all of the latest kernel and graphics drivers and stack work, though it is bleeding edge so it can be crash happy. The S3TC stuff however is stable and you can install just that from the PPA and remove it from your sources list if you like.
Well i did the installed that xorg-edgers ppa, even if I amnot a linux expert, but I do not mind a reinstall of ubuntu, or any other distro much.
Thanks for the help, but i guess that texture compression is installed it is the shaders that make some textures missing.

It works perfectly fine, there are no compatibility issues - it just has a very minor quality loss. The library is basically only used for compressing on the fly, GPUs can handle S3TC textures natively without any driver fuss or patent issues as the fee was already paid by the GPU vendor.
You just need to check that you got the 32bit version (libtxc-dxtn-s2tc:i368) if you're running a 64bit system, the 64bit one is useless for 32bit games, but the game launcher likely would have complained if it was missing.
just installed 3.10 ... there's no way in hell i'm going back to catalyst now it work stupidly well and elementary os use gala so... yeah radeon it's getting better
Sky Dance, which AMD graphics chip do you have? Has anyone else tried 13.10 with an AMD graphics card? If so, which card?
I use Arch, and have an a10-5800k. It works infinitely better than catalyst ever did. I'd say 90% of my games are faster, with some exceptions. Even those that technically have a little lower frame rate, still perform much better due to no more stuttering, screen tearing, and lag. The open source Radeon driver is just so much better. All the Valve games, like Dota 2 and HL2 series are much smoother.

HD 6450 and some of the games have only 30 fps but i care more about how the desktop works and catalyst gave me problems with gala and i had to use compiz instead, also DOTA 2 have some glitches (mostly on Spectator mode and the minimap)

You should try the new experimental shader optimizations (if your Mesa is new enough), they can double the framerate in some games (R600_DEBUG=sb)
