Custom Fan Speed for AMD Cards! (for those who worry about temps)
To any one who needs a custom fan speed for their amd cards here is the command
just open up terminal and enter the code in the box below.
Code to set fan speed
aticonfig --pplib-cmd "set fanspeed 0 50"

If you want to modify the speed just change the 50 to whatever you want (I would recommend not going lower than 50 when doing this though) This should keep your card nice and cool!

Here is another code to determine the temperature (Hint: the temperature is in celsius!)
aticonfig --pplib-cmd "get temperature 0"

Here is another code to determine the fanspeed
aticonfig --pplib-cmd "get fanspeed 0"

Is there an upper limit to this? Like, if I put 3000 in there, would that do something?

I think that the maximum value is 100! I It gives you an error code if you set it to anything above 100. (tried it myself) but you wouldn't want 100 percent fan speed anyway (sounds like a jet engine going off). 50 percent is nice and optimal!

and for revert to the standard speed?

either restart your pc or set the speed to 25 (think that's the default). I really think AMD should put an option to increase fan speeds in the catalist control center would it be that hard?

You can use AMDOverdriveCtrl to tune your card performance and fan controls http://sourceforge.net/projects/amdovdrvctrl/

I believe it's possible to reset to automatic fan control using

aticonfig --pplib-cmd "set fanspeed 0 auto"

At least, on my Radeon HD 5850, that seemed to have worked.

EDIT: Or not, because I tested it by playing TF2 and the temperature kept rising without the fan speed increasing. Even though the fan continues to run after issuing "set fanspeed 0 auto", it's apparently not automatic.

There really needs to be a way to set it back to automatic fan control.
