Installing Catalyst 13.1 or 13.3Beta? What should I do before and after install?

Alright, so I know I have to disable and delete all of the current drivers, that I can end up doing since I did it before, however last time I did it X failed to start, and eventually I just deleted my entire xorg.conf and it worked well enough. I think a major problem is that my laptop is a hybrid, but I did use the vga switcheroo set to only use my discrete video card.

Discrete Graphics Card: ATI 6770m
Integrated Graphics Card: Intel HD Graphics


I'm not even sure if the VGA_Switcheroo works after every boot or not, but normally when I swap to discrete, reset the xserver, and sign back in everything seems a lot more faster and stable, yet on next boot it's rather slow.

I'm also running Ubuntu 12.10 w/ Gnome 3.* using gdm (if that has any importance).



So, if I install the catalyst drivers, but if it loads the intel modules alongside the catalyst ones with the integrated graphics card running instead of the discrete, would that cause xorg to fail to start? Any way to completely disable the integrated graphics card on boot? The BIOS only allows me to either have it switch dynamically, or just use one, and in Windows it uses my ATI card unless it's not charging on boot, but on Linux it used my integrated even when it was charging.

Lastly, when I start up TF2, it says it's starting, but about a minute after it just closes without even bringing up a screen, so I want to know if any of this has to do with that.

Looking at changelog (PowerXpress A+I fixes) I guess you should prefer 13.3.

To switch GPU you have to choice it in Catalyst Control Center and do logout/login or reboot.

Your hardware configuration is most likely MUX-less. In this configuration laptop display and HDMI output is physically attached only to integrated GPU. Discrete GPU is can be used only for offloading rendering (rendered image translated to integrated GPU, integrated GPU display it).

Check this again after driver upgrade.

If you have ability to disable integrated GPU, than your hardware is MUX-ed. MUX-ed hardware is not supported by proprietary driver (but fglrx will work if you disable integrated GPU).

Alright, so I have the new ATI Driver installed and everything... but the game doesn't come up at all... it's unfortunate because I REALLY want to play TF2. I'll add another post with the errors it throws in terminal (Since I opened it without terminal)
