edit:
I just installed this driver and man I'm impressed!
I used to use the old 13.3-beta3 driver because it was giving me stable results in my games.
All of the other drivers would hang and I experienced stuttering and stuff. But this new one runs great.
I usually try new drivers with tf2 and now I get up to 500fps without stuttering etc.
I am using AMD Radeon HD 7970 3GB.
I haven't played TF2 for several weeks. Last time I played, it was ~30 fps
(I don't remember fglrx version)
Now, before updating driver, I lauched TF2 to compare and I got ~250-300 fps
With 13.11b6 I get same 250 fps
I guess you mean 13.11b6, right?
Catalyst from ubuntu 12.04 LTS repo: ~200fps
Catalyst 13.11b6: ~250fps
Steam still does not recognize VRAM.
Steam - System information
Video Card:
Primary VRAM Not Detected
Maybe someday, maybe someday...
Never noticed anything like that.
And the problem with steam is that i can't use big picture, it does not run smooth.
Steam in big picture shows that i have only 256MB VRAM.
maybe more a kernel or library problem ? steam also couldnt determine vram of my 7970 but big picture mode is running fine. Switched two weeks ago from gtx680 to 7970. Hadnt any problem with AMD Card or Drivers.... Started with Kernel 3.11 and Catalyst 13.11 Beta 1. Now with 3.12 RC7 and Catalyst 13.11 B6 also everything is running flawless and near maxed out.
If anyone remembers playing VTMB on computers that were available then, will know what I'm talking about. Start a map and look around quickly by rotating the camera. The movement won't be smooth, it will stop for a few tenths of seconds numerous times. Start going forward and you'll also stop sometimes for something that seems to be swapping.
if you go everywhere and look around thoroughly, stuff will get loaded and no more hiccups occur until you go to the next map.
If anyone wants to play around and see what I'm talking about, the beginning of EP2 is great place to test it. Go through the train wreckage and you'll see. Hiccups everywhere.
