Issue Report: SS3 no sound (SOLVED)
No sound on SS3 but sound on the moddable version. Sound was working fine initially but is now silent, have tried resetting cvars and deleting all content and re-downloading to no avail !
All other steam games are ok, I guess there is a hidden config file somewhere, any ideas ?

Terminal output from game launch appears fine ?

Have you looked in the Steam settings? Somewhere, you can select the default audio device. I suddenly had no sound in Killing Floor at some point, until I played with that.

Had a play with that, looks like I've lost sound in Big Picture mode now too, all other games are still fine except SS3.

If moddable version works, you could do a diff between the log files of the two versions to see what's different.
PvtTUX 18 dez. 2012 às 15:52
There is little difference between the two files, just timestamps and memory usage. I deleted the SeriousSam.ini file and recreated it with the unrestrictedSS3, still no sound in original game.

That doesn't really make any sense. Both executables are same in that regard, and both use OpenAL. If OpenAL works, sound in the game should work. The only difference between the exes is that one allows custom content to be loaded and the other has support for leaderboards and achievements.

Yeah it's a strange one, I've since gone to the bother of uninstalling steam and redownloading all the games, same result no sound in SS3 except for the unrestricted version.
No errors in the log files and very little difference. No idea what caused this to happen, might try forcing pulseaudio even though it appears fine.

Got it sorted eventually, looks like it was defaulting to the wrong sound output. Don't know why other games were fine but disabling the other unused outputs did the trick, perhaps pulse audio keeps a config of preferred outputs for certain games or apps somewhere.
