GitHub: Killing Floor ignores system libopenal.so
Killing Floor uses a (pointlessly renamed?) internally packaged version of openal which does not properly handle surround sound as seen in this post and the internal version does not work on my system because I use an experimental openal to JACK build of openal (1.14). OpenAL is a dependency of the steam client and should be present on all systems running Steam. While I understand that Tripwire should in no way need to support experimental software, please attempt to use the system version before falling back to the internally packaged copy.

I think what Tripwire used was some leftover junk from the UT2004 Linux build because I saw openal.so referenced in an old forum thread talking about installing UT2004 on Linux.

Might help to lodge a bug report at their forum:
