Problems with DOTA 2 on Ubuntu 13.04 with Intel Ivy Bridge
Greetings,

More or less i'm using this laptop (Intel HD 4000).
https://www.system76.com/laptops/model/lemu4

It plays Half Life 2 like a champ, no bugs and 90-120 fps. DOTA 2 is another matter. The Valve opening screen is just a pink overlay. The rest you can see through these pictures. The characters look broken in the same way and will crash during combat. fps is around 30 during gameplay.

I have verified the game. I have made a small change to the path in the console. Nothing else has been changed. The one thing that did work was the DOTA 2 logo.

Apologies if I don't get back to you immidately. I'm very busy with classes.

This bug should be fixed (according to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Dota-2/issues/38) in the next release. There is also a work around.

(1) use launch options to change the screen resolution it is being played at; For example:
Dota 2 Test > Properties > Set Launch Options... > -console -novid -fullscreen -noborder -w 1280 -h 1024
(2) Workaround (from the issue thread): [Note: this should only be used temporarily]
@Roxamis that's an environment variable (http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/set-environment-variable-linux/). Edit your steam shortcut and change this:
/usr/bin/steam %U
...to this:
MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=2.1 /usr/bin/steam %U

Or, just enter this in your console for one-time run:
MESA_GL_VERSION_OVERRIDE=2.1 steam
