Half Life: Incredible high system requirements
Hi,
I'm thinking about buying Half Life but the system requirements for linux are much higher than for windows. I don't think a simple port can cause this so I wonder what happened. Is this still the original GoldSrc engine?

I think it is just a mistake. Unlike TF2, HL1 on Linux works as good as on Windows
Possibly the minimum/recommended requirements for Unity as much as anything?
I buyed the game now and it has librarys like chomehtml and libsdl2, both not available when half life was originaly released. So I wonder if it's really the GoldSrc engine. Other than that: Great game! It deserves the term "Beta" but even with the bugs I can't stop playing. :)

//EDIT: But I wonder why some libs are available in 32 and 64 bit versions (like the engine itself) and others not. Also not two binarys. But I guess this will change in/after the beta.

The 'requirement' problem has more to do with drivers than iwth actual hardware or anything valve-related. For most people that translates into: Blame Intel and their sloppyness...
The game has antialiasing on by default, among other things. Which doesn't even work in TF2 without crashing for me. So they clearly did some major changes to the engine.

It's no problem to play Half-Life or Counter Strike on very slow systems. Mesa 8.0 is enough as well (does not require Mesa 9.0 like TF2 or other Source engine games). It even runs on my Atom netbook with 945GSE - it just needed a few updates till 1024x600 fullscreen worked.
