Steam for Linux

suddenly unable to run valve games (tf2, hl) on debian wheezy
i installed steam with kano's script and was able to run tf2 fine yesterday, but today i have had no such luck, getting output similar to the following in console for all valve games i try to run (tf2, hl):

saving roaming config store to 'sharedconfig.vdf' roaming config store 2 saved successfully Failed to load installscript /home/jack/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Half-Life/installscript.vdf Game update: AppID 70 "Half-Life (Beta)", ProcID 4731, IP ERROR: object '' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored. ERROR: object '' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored. /bin/bash: /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ version `GLIBC_2.14' not found (required by /home/jack/.local/share/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ Game removed: AppID 70 "Half-Life (Beta)", ProcID 4731

non-valve games don't complain about glibc, so i assume the problem is due to the fact that i'm running debian wheezy and hence have an older version of glibc (ldd --version gives 2.13-37), but now i'm wondering why hl and tf2 ran at all before now, and if there's anything i can do beyond just installing a distro with a more up-to-date version of glibc available

I'm getting the same thing now, it was working fine before the update.

I found a solution to play at HL / CS 1.6 without this problem (i'm on Wheezy too)

1- Download libc6 amd64 from Ubuntu :

2- mkdir ~/tmp && dpkg-deb -x $STEAM/deb/libc6_2.15-0ubuntu10.2_amd64.deb ~/tmp

3- mv ~/tmp/libc6/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/* $STEAM/ubuntu12_32/steam-runtime/amd64/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/

4- rm -rf ~/tmp
