[workaround] Issue report: TF2: "CD Key authentication invalid for internet servers."
Whenever I try playing, even in offline practice, I get a "CD Key authentication invalid for internet servers." error. According to http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1430401 this has happened before, presumably on Windows, and restarting Steam is meant to fix it. However, restarting Steam does not help for me.

Update: Applying the "dirty sh script" here[github.com] fixes it. Seems to be a problem with Steam trying to use the "pidof" command that no longer exists in my distro (Chakra[chakra-project.org]), since they switched to systemd.

Do you have the stdio output from TF2 when this happens? Thanks.

Sorry my response took so long. Here's the output, with irrelevant parts condensed into descriptions [like this]:

I think this part:

[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; unable to locate a running instance of Steam, or a local steamclient.dll.
is the key. It seems my Steam install is somehow broken. I'm running Chakra Linux and installed Steam via the CCR package here[chakra-linux.org].

if u have a shortcut on your desktop delete it go to your games library and create a new one.

Why?

Well, steam is integrated into tf2, so it is required to connect to servers. the shortcut may be booting up tf2 but not through steam (i.e a shortcut to hl2.exe). you want to boot tf2 through steam (i.e steam://rungameid/440)

If you are having this problem when compiling maps in source SDK, make sure steam is booted up as the SDK doesn't start steam by itself.

I was starting TF2 via the Steam games list. Anyway, it's been several months and both Steam and the packaging for it have been updated several times and the issue was fixed ages ago, as shown on the linked bug report.

Bernard.jpg, which distro are you using? Do you know if it's using Systemd? Are you getting the same
[S_API FAIL] SteamAPI_Init() failed; SteamAPI_IsSteamRunning() failed.
error when you run Steam from the console and launch the game through Steam instead of via a shortcut?
