TF2 Beta crashes at training movie
I am new to the beta, so I have a couple questions that will help me diagnose this and possibly find a solution:
How do I launch TF2 Beta in terminal mode so I can get a verbose output?
Where can I find logs of what happened when the game crashes?

When launching the game, it takes quite a while to get to the menu, but the menu works flawlessly at the moment. Having never played this game before, I'd like to complete the training first, but when I start training, the game crashes to desktop after I get to the chalkboard, and it takes quite a while to load up to that point.

I'm running an AMD Athlonx2 4800+ processor with 4Gigs of RAM @ 800Mhz (though only 2.7GiB are showing currently ?). Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit, nVidia GT 240 1GB video card.

Well, at least I got the RAM issue fixed. I had to re-seat the RAM in the motherboard, and Ubuntu now recognizes 3.9GiB as it did previously.

Still crashing at the first training movie. Sounds like the movie's about to start, then the sound loops a few times and the game crashes to the desktop.

For me TF 2 crashes in this situation, but I run Ubuntu 12.10 32 Bit.

We recommend using Team Fortress 2 when reproducing and reporting bugs, not Team Fortress 2 Beta (which contains new/untested code).
Thanks!

Darnit! I figured since it showed up in my library the same day I got my invite it was intentional. I'll re-download TF2 stable. Thanks!
