Issue Report: Multi-monitor setup
I'm using Arch Linux 64bit with KDE and using dual monitor setup

when I start steam... the dialog saying "connecting Steam account: <accountname>..." is in the middle of my dual monitor ( one half is on the left monitor and the other half is on the right ) but the main steam window does start on my configured primary screen ( right monitor )

same thing happens when loading team fortress 2 but for some reason the game starts on my left monitor even though my right monitor is the primary

We need some options that allows us to configure which monitor steam/games starts on plus improvements to detect the defaults settings

I've tried starting the game in window mode, dragging it to the right and full screen again... didn't work

I'm having the same issues under the Ubuntu 64bit 12.10 gnome remix. Serious Sam started up at the combined resolution of both my monitors like it was trying to span them, but only rendered on the left screen. I was able to get in adjust the video settings and manually set 1920x1080, which made it render correctly on the left monitor. Although, it now completely disables the secondary monitor while the game is running. Using an nvidia geforece 560 448 core with the 310,14 drivers.

Thanks for the info.

Same here, Arch x64. Tested on KDE, GNOME and XFCE.

Same here as well. Running KDE.

Same problem, Ubuntu 12.10 x64. On Amnesia, specifically. Also, the steam windows seem to be attached to the right side of the left monitor, rather than centered in the middle of the left monitor like it usually does in Windows.

Same issue Ubuntu 12.10 64bit, Nvidia 304.43. I also cannot change the resolution in TF2 to match the left monitors.

Same problem on Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit. And pop-up text comes out beyond the primary monitor:

Same here... Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit with dual 2048x1156 monitors using latest nvidia driver and twinview. The steam main window and most dialogs pop up in the middle of both monitors. Everything should default to center in the primary monitor or center in the secondary or tertiary monitor if the main steam window has been moved there.

Same issue for me, I do consider this issue as minor for me though.

I have the same problem with TF2 and Serious Sam 3.
With Serious Sam 3 I set it to 3 monitors but TF2 I have found a trick to get it to my center monitor.
I use now Mint 14 with Cinnamon and I use there Expo to set it to the middle screen.
I open the game, press expo and pull the game to my seccond work space and place it there in the middle.

The trick with Serious Sam 3 what worked for me was that I set it windowed and set that in the center screen.
Than go to the title bar and press right mouse button and chose fullscreen.
I think that it also works for TF2 but I didn't try it with that game.
With Serious Sam 3 I must do this to than set it to 3 monitors and than I can set it to fullscreen in the game it self.

It happens in Xubuntu 12.10 and Mint 14 (Cinnamon)

some here with 2 monitor

Same here. I'd like to add one other thing to this. My AMD drivers tend to detect the monitor on the right as monitor 1, and the left as 2. I have my tool panel (task manager, etc) on the bottom of the left monitor. When I exit a fullscreen game from Steam, the panel is switched to the bottom of the right monitor. Not a deal breaker, but bloody irritating.

Should have added that I'm running KDE/Kubuntu 12.10 x64.

I am having the same issues with both the client and Team Fortress 2. The resolution of my left monitor is less than that of my right (primary) monitor. Left monitor is 1440x900, right is 1920x1080. Because of this (at least I presume) when TF2 launches on the left, the buttons don't line up with their corresponding hotspots. This makes navigating extremely tricky or, when the buttons are toward the bottom of the screen, impossible. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with Gnome3.
